British police have sealed off the road outside Finsbury Park tube station in north-east London, after reports a van has driven into people in the area.

Social media users have reported a van swerved to hit pedestrians near or outside the local mosque.

A man was shown on video being held by police behind a police vehicle.

Sky News London said a number of casualties were being treated at the scene and the Metropolitan Police said it was dealing with a "major incident".

Second thought - i don't think it surprising that its come to this (the desperation to strike out) but Jesus i hope it hasn't. Carrying out these type of attacks for me is really hard to understand - i literally do not understand the position someone would have to be in to reach a logical decision (for themselves) that this is a good idea (both sides of recent attacks). It's hard to understand people when you can not associate/understand them fundamentally.

What is with the "" around the terrorist attack? Of course it is a terrorist attack. Its aimed to terrorise.

The driver of the van screamed, "I'm going to kill all Muslims" before being tackled to the ground by bystanders, according to a witness.

Abdulrahman Saleh Alamoudi told BuzzFeed News he was near the mosque when the van swerved towards them.

"This big van just came and went all over us," he said.

He said the driver tried to flee but was tackled and pinned down in a violent struggle.

"He was screaming before that — I'm going to kill all Muslims," Saleh Alamoudi said. "He was throwing punches all over."

British authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident or stated whether it was a deliberate attack.

It's not retaliation as the people injured hadn't done anything if some Catholic slaps you in the face it's not retaliation if some bloke you've never met before goes and slaps some random Catholic in the face.

Imam protected van driver until police arrived

Witnesses have told Sky News that an imam from the mosque protected the driver of the van from angry members of the public until the police could arrive.

That account seems to chime with the statement from the Muslim Welfare House that thanks imam Mohammed Mahmoud “whose bravery and courage helped calm the immediate situation after the incident and prevented further injury and loss of life”.
