Well , Me thunks it will be 16 teams , with Oz keeping their teams

A 16 week comp with a bye for everyone, June window for the tests in 18 and 19 and 4 weeks of mindsless play offs in July

I think Bill Pulver has played the saffas off a break ......and walked out clean as a whistle

Also interesting to not BP has send out a Press Release saying "We have a annoucement to make " and has never said "We will announce which team is going"

And the Rebels and Force are now swimming in $$$

Article was posted in April and yet still very little clarity. Don't surprised if we still have five teams next season.

That 'Super XV' website is not actually an official site for Super Rugby...

The fake logo and the fact that the competition has never been called that should be a dead giveaway though.

If Australia does keep all five teams, will the whole miserable, drawn-out process be remembered as an absolute masterstroke by the much maligned Pulver? Or will the consensus be that his poor planning, worse engagement and inability to handle complex problems have resulted in him accidentally falling arse-backwards into a favourable outcome?

EDIT: (and gloriously screwing over the South Africans in the process)

Ahhh, no.

Bill will be out on his arse, and double-quick.

I only hope Cameron Kline also gets to feel the toe of a shoe up his date.

I won't be watching Soup Rugby next year, I'm done, ZN teams are the one ones worth watching and even they have been weak this year, why does NZRU not get rid of the Blues yet? :/

Because Steve Tew thinks if keeping the Blues will get rid of your eye-wateringly dumb comments then it would be worth it.

Like many other sites it is a rugby site posting news and views.

The article is based on a SANZAAR press release
For confirmation on the official SARU web site

Happy now?

How in the f**k would keeping 5 x teams be remembered as a masterstroke, the whole reason the ARU are in this mess is because they expanded to five teams!?

your comments make no sense??

Five teams weren't that big of an issue until last season. All of a sudden they are. But I suspect a lot of the current issues are related more to leadership than talent and depth. In particularly just woefully shite coaching. Sort that out and things will improve.

Bollocks. The ARU is in a mess because they haven't invested in coaching and they've been burgling the grass roots for decades to pay for their boozy lunches. We've won two out of the six titles since adding the fifth team, it's an absolute nonsense argument that we don't have enough talent, we just don't have enough quality coaches and cutting a team is going to do four fifths of fudge all to change that.

Anything that gets the South Africans to put another toe out the door is a movement towards forcing the NZRU to agree to a pacific club comp, which is going to be the best way forward.

If we can keep all five teams, that's a great outcome for us, even if we have another few lean years. Coupled with this new national coaching oversight board that's emerging, these are very positive signs for our beleaguered sport.

Woefully shit coaching is one thing, but even at our best with the tahs and reds winning titles in the last 6 years, we did not have the player depth for the other teams and subsequently the likes of the Rebels and Force got smashed YOY..

Hell I even remember in the reds title winning year, they had a few injuries in the last few rounds and had to call in Caleb Ralph as a backup player...Caleb f**king Ralph!?

Because different people operate from different axioms.

The assumption that Super Rugby will survive beyond 2020 is not one that everyone shares.
bravo wrote:the whole reason the ARU are in this mess is because they expanded to five teams!?
It's not the whole reason, and going to 4 teams is not the answer either.

This comp won't exist after three more seasons.

Celebrating without the Barberton Daisy. An emblem of 80 years dropped sito-sito. No regard for history, yet brag about "80 years"....

Bulls are gone, down the drain. Shittiest admin they've had in decades.

3 of Australia's 4 franchises have announced their 2018 squads, with the Waratahs, who have had the least disruption, still dragging the chain. The Rebels, who have had the most disruption due to personnel turnover, were first out of the blocks, and that standard of off-field readiness augurs well for next year.

Meanwhile, we need to send Dumbledore or some other Tahs stalwart down to NSWRU headquarters with a horsewhip, to thrash the administration into action. (I heard they are talking to Curtis Rona, so I'm hoping they'll provide a home for he, Michael Ruru and Alex Newsome, as those 3 still haven't found an Australian franchise yet.)

Newsome is with the Waratahs, Ruru the Rebels. McCalman, Rona, Pek Cowan, Ryan Louwrens, Kane Koteka, Scoble, Robbie Coleman, Angus Cottrell are still unattached as far as I know. Haven't checked whether Tessmann is in the Reds squad.

In regards to the Rebels have around 45 players depending on what source you are reading.

Gerhard van den Heever - there's a blast from the past. What happened to him? His first season for the Stormers was pretty good if I remember correctly. Seemed destined for great things.

Edit: I think he first started with the Bulls.

The Lions are going to dominate the Saffer conferences this year...team to beat out of Africa.
Stormers will have a very strong forwards pack ...... so expect big scrums and rolling mauls...
Sharks are a workmanlike outfit ......its going to be tough this year.
Bulls are looking for improvement with a Kiwi coach.....Just need to find some forwards

I'm with WT on this.

Either you celebrate 80 years of history as the Union and include the daisy in the design as a tribute, or you accept that the Bulls franchise is only is technically only 20 years old, leave the Daisy off and STFU about the 80 years.

Hard to believe no Australian franchise has picked up Rona yet. He looked sharp on debut for the Wallabies, even if still making some adjustments to union. Surely the Reds will have a go, now they've dropped (almost unexpectedly) 4 players off their list...

Rona, Louwrens, McCalman and Cowen are the ones I thought would have gigs by now.
Cowen has been very loyal and may be pissed off with the ARU so may leave the country. Louwrens may also head back to SA, although he was the form half back of the first half of the last season and would be a huge loss to Aus rugby if he goes. McCalman is baffling. He is experienced, a Wallaby and can cover lock as well as 6 and 8 at super level. Rona ditto except covers 11, 13 and 14.

Cottrell and Matijow are both good players but have been long term injured so I can see them not being wanted. Cottrell in particular was looking good two years ago before his injury.

Louwrens won’t be far off Bok contention if he comes back.
