Barnes is great and has never done any harm ever to an Irish team

I'm okay with Barnes against a French side at home. He'll ref them off the pitch.

Thank God we're not playing a Welsh side though.

The thread was all like tumbleweed through a batwing saloon door, that's what I was emoticoning about.

It's too bloody early to enjoy a game. My eggs Benedict will be repeating on me.
This Montpellier outfit still don't travel well. Different animal at home but she should have the beating of them in Dublin.

I hope you're right but their squad is frightening, their form is good and Cotter has an axe to grind with us.

Is it that frightening though? Picamoles, Cruden, Naholo are certainly frighteningly talented. Bismarck is not the player he was, tho still very solid. Ditto Ouedraogo, Steyn. Pienaar is a great player, but would he frighten Leinster after all the shellackings we have given Ulster when he was there?

Very good squad with a great coach. But on the scale of the great visiting French teams that ASM or Toulouse brought to Dublin over the years? Not convinced. We'll see if Cotter can get them prepared.

If Cruden takes the kicks, Cotter might just have found himself his new Brock James. We can only hope.

I think it is that frightening. Their pack destroyed us last season and we were fortunate to pick up a losing BP in the first match. Luckily they had pretty much given up by the time they came to Dublin. Nadolo caused us all sorts of trouble last year and I don't see that we have the personnel to deal with him any better this time round. Picamoles is obviously world class but the half backs are the big improvement. Pienaar and Cruden behind that pack! Steyn can still bang them over from inside his own half and I'd really fear for our wingers against two monsters. If without SOB and Isa I would say they would have to be favourites.

Forgot to add the three *** after Leinster's name in the title.

Anyway, what would Leinster's strongest 15 be?
1. Healy
2. Cronin
3. Furlong
4. Toner
5. Fardy
6. Ruddock
7. SOB
8. Heaslip
9. McGrath
10. Sexton
11. ROL
12. Henshaw
13. Ringrose
14. Kearney
15. Nacewa

Something like that?

I don't trust Carbery at FB against bigger back threes like Montpellier's.
I'd also pick Kearney at wing for solidity. (though is he injured? Been out of the loop a bit this season)

It's a difficult one to call, obviously because it's the opening match to the Cup for those teams, and because it makes you think Euro comp does start too early in the season (especially for certain clubs): teams are barely starting to find out who they are domestically, that they're compelled to feature in XXL fixtures some weeks into the start of their official season.
A team like MP with new items in the pack, at halfback, and a new headcoach and system... this surely is premature for them.

I'll update the thread when I get info on which players are available for the match.

Floppy what are you on about? Carbery has been our best back this season, playing exclusively at FB

What a ridiculous notion - I would never play for the Frenchies.

Though Nadolo was shitting himself there for a moment  :proud:

Look at his tackles last match. All great technique and around the ankles, but that's against the likes of Conway coming at him. Wouldn't fancy bigger back three players.
