Saracens v Clermont discussion thread

If you don't know, Clermont have had probably (I hope !...) the most downright comical decimation of halfbacks in a quarter of a season ever observed in Rugby history. Camille Lopez horrifically breaks his leg, Fernandez suffers another gruesome-type injury (knee), Laidlaw went down for 5 months, they bring in on immediate effect Luke McAlister from Toulon he plays one game earlier today and possibly broke his hand lol and I think there's another injury at HB... it's just been incredible.
So it's been difficult to carry out their gameplan properly lately,

How are the Saracens/English fans feeling about this one ? Surely confident being at home but what's the situation there atm ?

confirmed broken hand for McAlister, out a couple of months. Just incredible stuff.
They're going to have to play Parra at 10 and some academy minnow at 9.

Sarries are in a mini-crisis. Itoje out, 5 losses on the bounce.

oh shit that's right, just third in Prem atm... GLOUCESTER at second ??... huh..
well at home they'll still be too much for a halfbackless Clermont, that's for sure...

Tom May actually predicted a Clermont win (one of these podcasts https://audioboom.com/posts/6405373-cha ... versed&t=0).

Not going to bet on that, but apparently Saracens have certainly lost a bit of their luster. They're apparently committing more errors than usual and not being as flawless as they were last year. Obviously they're missing Vunipola as well.

I don't expect either side to be anywhere near their best. Think I said Sarries by 10 on Superbru.

right yeah, it's going to be like a really, really shitty version of last year's final lol. Saracens are still probably the better team... Clermont's season with Lopez out for a decade is screwed anyways.. Fofana barely back from injury, Nakaitaci/Iturria out long term and a 5 foot midget teen playing scrumhalf.. plus barring all that, the satisfaction of finally winning something last year (7 year wait !) that's made them a complacent version of themselves even when Lopez was there. Plus Fofana barely back fr...oh no I've said that already.

Yep. A real shame. Just even McAlister would've done it. But no, he had to get injured within 10 days of signing with Clermont, it's been absolutely ridiculous.

I'm off to this game in an hour or so. My sisters work do stuff with Saracens programs or something so her boss passes down his corporate tickets when he's not going. She has only recently informed me of this situation.

The only downer is 1) Saracens with no Itoje and 2) It takes nearly 2 hours to get there from South London FFS!

According to Twitter it's been called off due to the snow

Thanks for the heads-up. I'd be gutted if I had got dressed first and found out.

Some routes at 90 minutes but it's a hassel for sure, long arse Northern Line to Mill Hill. Quins or Richmond is so much easier. 10-15 minutes from Clapham Junction.

What's Hemel Hampsted like BTW? I have some friends thinking of moving to Hartfordshire way. Maybe Harpenden or St Albans. I'm not sure why, but at least it's good Rugby country up that way.

Why, how long does it usually take for you to get dressed daniel ?

I'm fkng disgusted here, really looking forward to this game. Can't England stop it with their shit weather just once, we get it, you love your precipitation but ffs..
on the flip side maybe if they postpone it long enough, Clermont can get an actual flyhalf back.. maybe in like, yeah, 2 months would nice, please.

5 minutes. But it's Sunday, this is early for me. You seem offended by my weekend routines.

That'll be Hempstead! The surrounding villages and outskirts are ok, but it's a strange old place!!
Hope your friends have plenty of dosh, they'll need it to move to Harpenden or St Albans. Some of the most expensive properties in the Northern Home Counties in that area.

A dusting of snow on a plastic pitch

Nothing to do with their form i'm sure. Hope they pick up a nasty fine like timisoara last year.

Cheers. Yes, plenty of dosh between the two of them. Been living in Herne Hill. Already have plans for private school for their children.

Yeah, I believe that is the main reason, along with the whole thing with middle class parents who moved to London in their youth because it's cool and now it's not a good enough to raise their kids  Still they are a bit more honest then many of my mates who are more vocal politically lefties who moved out then played the postcode game for good schools. One guy I knew actually moved out and rented a flat for a year near the school they wanted. Ridiculous middle class gymnastics.

Still I was considering moving that way maybe, being a teacher it's relatively easy to get a job locally should family matters dictate. Both my last two partners started these conversations.

St Albans is ridiculously expensive. We got a four bed extended semi in London Colney (One postcode out) for what you could get a two up two down with restricted parking in St Albans.

It's a lovely place though, if a bit Tory ridden.

The game was called off because you couldn't get 10,000 people in and safely. Pitch just literally needs brushing

You try and buy on of those 3 bed semis in Marshalswick that were built between the wars. They are selling for £650k+ Those that have been extended £750k+

Many nice non-big urban places are. Probably most.

I didn't realise St. Albans was so pricey. A work mate comes from there, he teaches PE. I would never have guessed

When the French/Italian Get an unplayable pitch they end up facing fines / Forfeit.

it's a synthetic pitch... remove the snow and you can play...

It's not just the pitch. It's very hazardous traveling to and from the stadium. The council for example might have some say in the matter.
