The place is mental.

Nigeria, in equal measure home to some of the most awesome people and quite possibly the worse drivers I have ever had the misfortune to share a road with.

The police are c*nts as well.

Do you throw the word "Apartheid" in such a casual manner in all the Cabals you attend Oom?

Yep. Well remembered. Never went further north than Ibadan though, so I can't comment on Kano. All of the comments above ring true.

We are so use in South Africa for blaming apartheid for everything that it feel strange to be in a country where you see lots of poor people happy and getting on with their dayly lifes.

Classic Boerewors Curtain syndrome.

Most Saffas (Oom excluded) have rarely ventured north of the Limpopo, but claim to know the continent so well because they are Africans.

OomPB is from the Cape, I am pretty sure his family were Hensoppers, or sappe, who helped the British Colonial engine reign supreme

Some of us went past the Kunene (without much choice) And some worked farther north. Some even worked in Somalia and Eritrea and Ethiopia and such places. Some even Libya.

When I travelled from Kenya to South Africa I was amazed at how many South African families there were on the road and camping in spots all the way up to Tanzania. Okay, many might stay at home, but it was still impressive how travel hardy they were in a pretty dicey continent.
