Google chrome.

Just interested to see who uses it here. On the phone specifically. That suggested article thing they have when you open a new tab is a right pain in the arse. Having done some research it seems that its impossible to get rid of it. They have taken the option out of developer mode. Some bastards aren't they. So what's the best alternative? Firefox?

I use Dolphin browser. it used to be by far and away the best phone browser, but then their ad block function broke, so now it's only a bit better than the rest. The ability to imitate a desktop browser (i.e. it doesn't default to some shit mobil3 site if there is one), and play flash is really good.

Recently started using Opera on my phone, has an ad-blocker, can do desktop sites and is pretty swift.

Opera-mini. Quite adequate.

I use Firefox. De-Googled myself about a month ago. mailfence for email and startpage for a search engine. Not comfortable with Google taking over the Internet.

Didn't even know this existed until I scrolled down. I presume we're talking about 'articles for you'? What I see with a new tab is 8 options from my browsing history and a recent bookmark option. Along with the Google search box and logo obviously.

I thought most ppl use custom roms to get rid of bloat? The only google apps I have on my phone are maps and the play store.

Having migrated from IE, I find Firefox is very good for my purposes.

I've got all the others except "Dolphin". What's the take on that?

Adaway and Chrome work well using Pure Nexus ROM and I like having sync.

Using other browsers can come with their own ballache (continued development & support, security, missing features, bugs).

FWIW, most browsers have synch these days. But I do have my Google stuff synched. Under a rubbish email address I never check or use for anything. It's basically just a Google-synch address to save my phone contacts information and Google Map markers.

Google shut down third-party access to the Chrome Sync API.

Chrome on every platform for me. I'm not paranoid - or weird enough - to stress about what data Google is getting from me.

I particularly like that you can turn the sound off on an individual tab.

I agree that these huge companies aren't interested in your personal data for malicious reasons unless you're Julian Assange or something. There's not some secret agent at Google HQ rubbng his hands together while reading your emails and noting down facts about your private life like some people seem to imagine. It's just super-computers crunching data to provide advertising content and shit like that.

But that's not really the point. It's only 2% about my privacy online. The point is kind of the same as not getting your coffee at Starbucks. I'm big on the freedom on the Internet and don't want that to become analogous with some huge company that basically runs the whole thing. I just don't want to feed the Google machine. And ... as a nice little 2% bonus I'm keeping my shit much more private. Even if it is just preventing super-computers crunching my data and spitting ads in my face.* I'll avoid it if I can.

* food for though - that's all it is for now.

No you use a custom rom for the features, performance or customisation. You don't need to change the rom to remote bloatware.

Been a Chrome user since whenever, always liked the way it syncs across devices, however it fails me now, but only on this site, cannot get rid of those fecking ads down the side that seem to be time programmed, ok now, but other times of day I just close this site down as it makes it unreadable. . :x
