Michalak is calling it quits, and he may not have had the most consistent career of all time but he's still going to go down as a "French legend" just like Dusautoir or Mccaw were certainly legends years before hanging up the boots.
But 'legend' doesn't just mean superstar. Who do you consider a Rugby legend in your nation currently active right now ? Not anticipating for promising individuals, but who's already got that status acquired.

Personally, I don't think you can consider any current player a legend whether they are still playing their trade at an International level or still playing at a lower level e.g. Carter.

All Munster players.

BOD and POC would be the only two recent Irish players who were considered legends (in Ireland anyway) while still playing.
None in the current bunch have that status yet.

Peter Stringer. Still going strong at 40 playing easy rugby in tier 1 of the English Premiership. Also Donncha O’Callaghan, also playing there while approaching his 39th year and captains his club Worchester Warriers.

Minnosu, these 2 active Irish players could be considered legends.

Retallick (68 tests) and Whitelock (96 tests).

Their locking combination is the best I've seen in the ABs. Traditionally my favourite AB players have been in the backline. But for the last few years, it's been the Retallick and Whitelock locking combination (i.e. "big sexy") that has caught my attention.

Retallick, Whitelock, Read, Kaino.

B Smith & A Smith are also on the verge and Beauden is a few seasons away. Also, Owen Franks is there or thereabouts.

Sam W had the highest number of tackles in the ABs in tests in 2017, way ahead of the player at #2

Who was second? Cane? Where can we find these stats.

Whitelock and BBBR are both headed for legend status, although I do think Brodie is going to be though of as the greater one (the one to partner Meads in the greatest AB team of all time) which doesn't take away anything from the current NZ player of the year..

George Smith is still playing and has been since before most of us were even a glint in our parents eye.
David Pocock is close if not there.

But they all pale in significance when it comes to the true legend of our lifetime.

Some players get by on looks alone. By the time people start questioning their ability they've already played 50 SR games.

George Smith has literally been playing rugby for as long as I can remember watching it. I'm not Australian but he is the answer to this thread.

Seeing I was making a joke about 'tackle' meaning 'penis', I hope you're wrong.

That's what threw off as I knew Beauden was tall obviously not the tallest.

At 196cm, he may be the tallest AB back ever.

Booyah, my reckons prove correct.

Although Jordie's hair sticks up further than Jonah's Tintin tuft.

A legend would have to make my all time ABs side.

At the moment, probably none.
