Sky Sports & Now TV

I’m thinking of cancelling Sky Sports entirely - I’ve had it for ages, but today I happened to notice how much I am actually paying for it, which is way out of proportion to the rest of the package. (I suppose the billions they throw at the EPL has to come from somewhere).

Looking at alternatives for the times when I actually do want to watch something on Sky Sports. Now TV (streamable to my laptop and TV) looks a decent option with a day pass costing £6.99. Anyone else had any experience using it?

Does any rugby actually go to Sky nowadays? I can’t be arsed with EPL football now, though I may watch the odd Hearts game they screen. I think pretty much all of the Scotland games I’ve watched recently have been on the Beeb. Pro14 rugby tends to be either in Welsh (S4C) or Gaelic (Alba). Very occasionally it appears on BT Sport, but I don’t get that anyway (though a friend lent me his online login for the odd occasion when this happens).

Suddenly suspecting I’m a complete mug for not cancelling this years ago.

Sky in UK should allow you to subscribe only to certain sports channels (ie not pay for shite moneyball) if you so wish. Subscribe only to whatever channel is the one that broadcasts the sports you want to watch.

The problem previously has been that they were a bit random about what went on which channel. They seem to be changing things though.

Sky still have some Pro14 games Eg Weegies vs Embra

I use NowTV to get Sky Sports when I need it. Streams decently, and not a bad price you can get day, week and month passes which offer different values for money depending how many games you want to watch.

Can't record so have to watch live, but otherwise works well. Max 4 devices, which can be limiting if others in the household. We have 3 smart TVs and 1 laptop signed up currently, so can watch away from home too, but can change devices once per month.

I binned sky for similar reasons a few years back and haven't regretted it.
BT sport with my broadband, and NowTV as and when.
(Plus Netflix and Amazon prime) all for less than I was paying Sky.

Just subscribed to an annual NowTV entertainment and Movies offer for £99, which is a lot cheaper than the equivalent Sky package.

Loads of voucher codes available which give a reduction to the normal price too.

For rugby I just got a subscription to Rugbypass, which works very well - you can watch every game from every tourmament either live or on demand (even stuff that isn't broadcast on Sky etc). You do need a VPN to fake out being in either Singapore or Hong Kong though

Didn't know you could watch on demand stuff on there. How much is the subscription?

I moved from sky to nowtv. Don’t regret it. Only actually used it once so far.

It’s decent and is available as an app on my smart tv, and also works with chrome cast, or their own nowtv box.

My mates who use rugbypass rave about it. Think you need to pay for it via PayPal as it rejects European payment cards. Only available in Asia, so VPN is needed save mentioned above. I’m pretty sure it’s very cheap, about a tenner a month.

I use nowtv, since the only things Sky has I insist on watching are the England autumn AIs and home cricket tests. But the quality on a big screen is noticeably worse than over satellite / cable / the air. Particularly for cricket where the compression routine they use actually makes the ball flicker in and out of sight on the out field. Rugby’s better, but you’d see the difference if you had them side by side.

Umm I paid USD119 for a full year, using their Christmas discount offer. Normal price is USD159.99 annually, or USD19.99 monthly, or USD7.99 weekly. They don't give a toss if your billing address isn't in Asia it seems (I used my US card)
