Tommy Bowe calls it a day.

As per his twitter;

Tommy Bowe Official

I’ve spent most of my career in Belfast,
At first George said I wasn’t very fast,
I eventually found my gears,
Had some incredible years,
But it’s time to tell you - this is my last!

Shame his last few years have been so ravaged by injury, he's still had a great career.

What a player. What a servant for Ireland and Ulster.

That try v Wales in 2009 will remain with us forever.

Thank you Tommy.

Quality player, and absolutely deadly when playing in his prime.

Cardiff 2009 Wales V Ireland was unforgettable.

Enjoy your retirement. Thanks for the memories.

This. Helluva player in his pomp, and a well-deserved Lion.

Didn't know they did a porn version of the Pied Piper story.

Great player, always preferred him as an Ospreys player than an Ireland player.

Sad to hear this. On his day Bowe had an amazing wingers brain and was the best winger in Europe for ages.

Enjoyed watching him at his best - seemed to have a great instinct to be in the right place at the right time.

Player I always enjoyed watching

Big, strong, reasonably quick but the thing I liked best about him was his positioning and ability to read play. Good rugby brain on him.

Seemed like a pretty decent guy as well

With DOC and Bowe retiring and Stringer out of contract, only Heaslip*, Best and Rob are still playing from the GS team.

*TBC, I guess.

Nope the Golden generation was the generation before Tommy came along, Horgan, Geordan Murphy, Easterby, Leamy, D'arcy, BOD, Dempsey, Hickie, ROG, (David)Wallace etc

Yep, Think Healy, Sexton and SOB got capped later on in the year though.

Was it the Lions in SA tour where it was a dead rubber third test but Bowe got shifted to 13 with another player at 12 whose name I forget that went on to play blinders?

God that team underperformed, 1 GS (and title) not enough out of them. That said considering Hayes was our only prop for 15 years maybe not.

At his best he was my favourite Irish player, and such a nice bloke I couldn't hate him for the try he scored in the 2009 grand slam match in Cardiff.

Best and Kearney's contracts are both up this year tbf.

Also Keet was in and around the squad but injured/missed out on selection. But the fact it's 9 years ago it isn't a huge surprise even if in an ideal world, Fitz, Ferris, Heaslip, TOL would all still be playing.

What a player. Could pick a line like no other.

I know most people hate Rule Nugent but I don't think any Irishman will tire of hearing "Tommy Boweeee".
