I'm a 90s sort of guy myself, but there's some good shit from the 80s.

I was listening to some Smiths today - The Queen is Dead from 1986 really is a good album:

There is a light that never goes out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9Gf-f_hWpU
The boy with a thorn in his side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdOHPjMzY8s

Other Smiths:

Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nxQLJmshak
What does it make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZa8jHi1nkk
Heaven knows i'm miserable now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjPhzgxe3L0

Always have to share this when these threads come up ... something that flew well under the radar in 1987, but that I heard on a retro 80s night a few years ago because it was hosted by a real DJ who knew his shit, popular and underground.

Voice of America - Story of Love

... maybe it was a bit late, better fit for what was big in the early-mid 80s?

(Love when a youtube clip's comments are actually insightful. Second one down says "My husband wrote this song!" I've seen others like this on other 80s clips, such as "My teacher's playing drums in this video!" and "Wow, look at my dad's hair back then!" )

Got rereleased, think 91, so is probably in your 90s mental library.

I worked in that pub for a while, not long before this video was shot there - The Star Tavern, St Johns Wood. Good times.

Edwyn Collins and his band Orange Juice went alright...

Can't Help Myself

Australian music hit a massive surge dominated by what we know as pub rock, a blues rock sort of genre but there were some really interesting bands doing different things,

Big Pig... Hungry Town

Hunters and Collectors... Talking to a Stranger

But NZ had Flying Nun Records and...

The Chills... Pink Frost
The Bats... North by North

and there was REM

I am Superman

 used to play their stuff a lot living in Sydney.

People used to laugh at the 80s and the music, probably because of the massive surge of shithouse commercial crap and over produced shite that erupted but there was some banging music, this thread has thrown up some beauties.

Yep, there was shitloads of great music in the 80s. Loads of horrible commercial crap too, of course, but there is in every decade.
