2 players taken off today that limped off, Jalibert took an obvious knock to the knee but the doctor claimed it was a HIA, this needs to be sorted out quickly.

It was all the refs fault. Nothing to do with the French.

Owens clearly uncomfortable with the second one but obviously unwilling to counter a docs decision although he didnt speak with the doc himself just the 4th official. The second one was clearly no head contact at all from the replays. Being abused as much as the blood bins used to be.

Didn't France do the same against Wales last year too?

If you can't finish a game under a HIA you should have a mandatory minimum 14 day cool down period in which you cannot play. That would solve some of this shit.

Except for at the start of the incident Owens shouting HIA and pointing to his head. This may have made the docs decision much harder.

Seriously need to look at that last one. Owens obviously very sceptical, but can't overrule a medic at the end of the day.

Looked so blatant though.

Is the medic on the take? Or just like French TV station replays, they feel they need to help French sides win.

No I reckon he's cautious and listens to the ref as well.

If the player says he hit his head, no doctor will say he hasn't

So much morons going on about this, so much hate against us.

What has this go to do with the Frenc, FFS?

Owens talks about head injury, the official and doctors confirm, what the heck can we do about this? Dupont did his knee, this gem will be out for a very long time you monks, when did he claim head injury?

Jalibert was obviously a knock to the knee, but he went off with a HIA which means he could possibly have come back on, basically bullshitting and taking the piss with HIA rules.

what has this got to do with Jalibert?

When Duont horribly did his knee, immediately the ref indicated head. What has this got to do with Dupont?

You guys are insane.

Owens thought it was a head injury at first.

I suppose the problem is, if the player's head hit the ground at all, a doctor will say 'we should check for a HI' , better safe than sorry, and doctors are naturally cautious.

That's also my take on events.

Both players injuries seem to be prettey bad, although we don't have precise medical reports yet. Dupont was obviously in pain and was laying on the ground. His injury when you watch the replay is terrible, the knee really goes the opposite way it should.

Completely agree, and cheating aside, that some players are back doing full contact in a week is stretching it.

That’s why you should check the head just so you know the knee is ok.

These two players have probably have grave injuries, Dupont could not even walk properly.

What are you on about, apart from your filthy accusations?

Xupi the injury is sad for 2 potential players but that isn't the issue.

The issue is, both the ref and the fans are being told they were HIA only injuries. They aren't.

HIA allows a substitution which in this case may have garnered an advantage, a non-HIA situation wouldn't have allowed that to happen. Severe bending of the rules and if England or any of the home nations also did it, they'd deserve every bit of flak coming their way.

Grave injuries, quite possibly, let's hope not.

I'm sure he will. He was left in an impossible situation. We were all aware that there was no way the 2nd player was coming back on the field even if he passed HIA.
That allowed machinaud to reenter play.

It’s fairly simple, both players went off for injuries and both were marked down as only HIA, which means the medical team have time to work on the player and he’s allowed return if he passes the HIA, or and this is important, if a player is subbed off for tactical reasons he’s not allowed return unless it’s in place of a player with a HIA.
Do you understand now?

If Dupont was an injury and not a HIA (I have no idea tbf, so we should probs trust the doctor), Machenaud would not have been allowed back on and you would have been down to 14 as you were out of substitutions.

The important part is that Machinaud, who had been subbed could only come back in a case of HIA. The French would have been without a scrum half if they hadn't bent the rules.

Thanks, I ignored the part after the "or" in your above sentence. Now, who determines if this is HIA? I heard Owens mention about an official doctor, and the 4th official.

Ok, understood now. But this is all on the basis that the HIA injured player may be allowed back on the field while in this case, Dupont could not even walk on his own, he was never coming back on the pitch. So Machenaud should have not been let back in. Stupid rules.

Not sure, I think Owens originally said it was an HIA and called it an HIA.

Very quickly it seemed to become apparent that it wasn't an HIA and the french staff dithered as did the world rugby official. They "might" get away with Owens getting the original call wrong and that specifically leading to the subsequent events which is plausible. The slight issue is that he calls HIA when the player is clearing holding his leg for what seemed a good few minutes so how much of a mitigation it ends up being is up to WR, if Owens feels it necessary to report it because he wasn't comfortable with the original call/what he was told.

The player.
No doctor will refuse an HIA if the player says he hit his head. IF there was no visible fracture, it would be difficult to say he's not coming back on..but he obviously wasnt.

What appeared blatantly obvious was the French calling HIA for any injury as a matter of course.

I'm sure they're not the only ones
