How do you embed a tweet on this forum?

Tech angels, I'd like to be able to post an actual tweet; images, vids, gifs, and all as it appears on Twitter itself. I've tried using the Twitter embed option but it doesn't work here.

Reason is there's been a surge in people linking to youtube videos and podcasts, and tweets but there's no visuals to make you want to click the link or to give readers an immediate sense of what the link is about.

Kiap I think knows how to embed an image which is clicked to play a youtube video instead of clicking a word link. Perhaps he knows how to embed a tweet as it appears on twitter also?

Actually, I'd like to be able to use strike-through also, have done for years now. Most sites use [s]...[/s] or similar.

Might as well get all the tech requests in at once.

See that big X to the top right of your screen? That's the Twitter embed option, try pressing it. It doesn't always work the first time mind, you might have to try it everytime you log on.

There’s a lot of nastiness on this thread.

I'm using safari.

Interesting a moderator would make a stupid joke about a member of the forum. Even if it is a former moderator who hated his job, wasn't good at it, and begged to be sacked.

Interesting that the only thing you got right in that stream of nonsense was the bolded section.

Simplicity can be fantastic but this forum is a piece of shit which doesn’t work half the time as it is.

Moving this place to a nice new piece of software would be a waste of time though with the 40+ clique demo on here who are set in their ways. Lads moaning about Twitter and Facebook when they post on an anonymous message board. The sad part is that a few posts past and present decided to take the fun out of the board with excessive moderation. It should be one of the best things about here that the older demographic don’t reflect to snowflakery but sadly it does.

Why do you need to embed tweets? They're never particularly profound, and if you really feel the need, quote what they said and include a link.

The first bit I get. The user operation of the site should be simple because of the narrow range of age and experience of the members, and when everyone gets used to the format change is challenging.

But the site could use a few tweaks making things you click or see more attractive an immediate. I'm no Facebook or twitter user myself but I do occasionally want to post a full tweet here. As far as I can tell you're say these changes can't be made without a software change - that's a shame.

The rest of your post seemed to enter into the anti-pc territory which I don't want too get into.

That can be done. I'm saying it's useful to be able to show the tweet as it appeared because a lot include images and videos, etc. Twitter provides the service but PR can't accept the service, it seems.

Yeah if there's one thing holding this place back it's the excessive moderation.

And the precious cliques.

Here you go! We've only been asking for ~6 years or so, if not more.

Here's a link to a phpBB user forum which has info on embedding tweets if the hamster wants to have a look.

https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2395796

Would add a lot to this forum, possibly help save it from terminal decline.

I would prefer it if this forum had more code tailoring, It would also sort out the software literate men from the boys.

I don't know anything except that I want be able to show a whole tweet or Facebook post here as an image direct from source. This is open source software - I get that - but it looks like there's third part extensions which can do the job. Won't some techie in South Africa get with times and give it a go?

Simplicity itself.
  1. Take a screen grab.
  2. Save it to dropbox or similar.
  3. Print out a copy on heavy A3.
  4. Shove it up your arse then tell us how it felt.
