FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Just got into one, first physical altercation in maybe 10 years. Just bizarre.

Will keep it brief and hopefully just the highlights

- driving along Tanglin Road in SG, fairly busy stretch before main road
- get rearended by tailgater at lights
- pull off onto side road, tailgater doesn’t move
- he stays in his car at the lights, holding up traffic (maybe contemplating hitting-and-running)
- eventually pulls in behind me but stays in vehicle
- check both vehicles, barely a scratch on either
- guy eventually gets out and starts ranting
- no idea what he’s saying, sounds like Tamil and Singlish and Tourette’s
- gets in my face (not easy as I’m about a foot taller)
- starts shouting, makes out to throw a punch
- kicks me in the shin instead!
- have to give credit, that’s a decent misdirection
- grabs my hair (!!!) and starts whacking
- I’m grabbing onto him and trying to contain rather than hit back
- motherfucker is wiry as hell, breaks away, spits on my car and drives off!

Whole thing over in a couple of minutes, dozens of onlookers who of course do and say nothing

Contacted insurance company, drove home.

Sorry for the Facebook post but thought I’d ask the PR bush lawyers; any point in contacting police? Didn’t bother asking for a witness to verify, no real damage to car (a leaser) or myself.

Can only think that as this is a small place the chances of encountering this dude again are relatively high, should file a report anyway?

Yours sincerely,
naki

not a lawyer of course, not an anglo either, but typical case of cùnt vs civilized.

would have been nice if any witnesses had given you address, just in case, cause he did actually hit you.

I thin you should go for the police to report that, maybe not a big thing, but a simple report officially somewhere in case the fùcker happens to cross you road again (and insist on that point and on the fact he physically hit you). This way you will have documents on that history, and he actually hit you already (once again).

The ending is pretty simple, if you're civilized, you won't hit the fùckers as a response and rather try to cut the crap, like you did.

Just a question, how did you make him go away as the fùcker was obvisouly hitting you physically and willing to (leg, hair etc) ?

Think I’m obligated to file a report as it was effectively a hit and run. Waiting for insurance company to advise.

I didn’t make him go away, he just broken free and scarpered - must have felt he’d made his point.

Relieved that he did, I had height, weight and reach advantage but this guy was doing some amateur Muay Thai shit and from the short exchange we had seemed like he would have kicked the shit out of me

I reckon you've done something to piss him off and he's followed and couch shunted you on purpose.

The lull was just him considering whether to stab you or just go full Micheal Brial. Sounds like you got off lightly.

Have you checked the bushes outside?

In all seriousness you should call the cops, you've just been assaulted. I'm assuming cctv is pretty common over there on account of it being Singapore. Word round the campfire is they don't take kindly to that sort of thing.

PS naki : as for you personally, as bessantj said, glad you're ok... and feel frustrated for you such a fùcker did assaulted you, and that you, as a sensible and civilized guy, didn't turn it into a full fight... for you own good too : being armed or arming people in a street fight = shit stuff.

So you might feel quite frustated not to have physically answered enough to that agression (ie punched him fair and square), but unfortunatetly, in this world you made the right decision i think.

Nevertheless, be sure that i am personally wishing the fùcker a pancreatic cancer.

Yes CCTV has almost certainly covered part or all of it, though again I’m waiting for cvnting insurance company to advise of process

Had something last week, probably my fault, I was crossing the road, text ping came in I had headphones on listening to music, look down at phone, look back up and an old bloke has stopped still as he saw me not watching,’sorry!’ I mouthed.
He went potty and rushed at me like clearing out a ruck!

I called him something that sounds like ‘plucking twunt ‘ and that was that.

Sat contemplating later, yes looking at your phone crossing the road is something of a dick move...

Definitly need to report to the police, and tell them about that boxing/muaythai shit too in his intentional agression, i think that could be an aggravating fact (using academic fighting skills to attack people without provocation etc.), just in case.

If it happened at a busy junction then it's likely that there are cameras pointed at it. Maybe worth seeing if you can access any VT?

Anyone who could fight would have, I’d say. As I didn’t even throw a punch I’m not sure, he may have folded with a mere tap, but I don’t think my fighting style of “bear hug and shout in an awkward and confused manner” was leading towards a TKO.

still, in the end the fact that you didn(t throw any punch or highkicks :D is a very good point to you. They can review the cams all the want an will see very straight agression from one side only, with you just trying to contain things.

But yeah, thinking of it more and more, that's a pure physical agression. Need a police report whatever the insurance says... you've been assaulted and you did nothing that could be misinterpreted it seems.

How is the police like in Singapore for expats like you ?

You should have taken him to the ground BJJ style, that would have been safest for you after that going over.

8) boom.

Obviously you were not one of the guys telling me my BJJ training would be useless in a "real fight".

And yeah, I agree - if you know what you're doing. Taking a dude to the ground isn't going to be that helpful if you're just as clueless as they are. The best thing about it in these kind of situations is, if you know what you're doing, you can totally subdue the guy without actually doing any damage that could wind you up in court or something.

Naki: sorry to hear about that experience. Must have been frightening as hell, although sounds like you handled it well. Dealing with someone who is obviously unhinged is scary because you just don't know what they're willing to do. Did you or anyone else get a number plate? Did you get contact details from any of the witnesses?

As a side-point, how f'n mental does a fellah have to be to tail-gate someone like a moron, rear-end them and then get out and act like it was all the other guys fault. Crazy shit.

naki, last stuff, just in case.

As said, civilized people not aiming to fight in any situation always get "surprised" and somehow stupefied by this kind of fùckers and situations, and that may put the "victim" in a strange state of "trauma", frustration, and powerlessness.
Of course, you don't want such a situation to happen, you're not a bully, you don't want to be killed or badly harmed in your everyday life, and you don't want to kill or harm a fùcker for real and to have to handle the consequences. So how could one feel, considering the fact that you couldn't and shouldn't react in the same level of agression, but still have to deal with the agression ? So frustrating.

My cousin who is a cop, deals on a daily basis with these shits and gets the same feeling of frustration and powerlessness so often. And he is a cop ! But they can't do to the fùckers what the fùckers do to them. They cope with abuses, being assaulted, and quite often being sued for harming the fùckers, and being asked money etc. so they have to deal with the justice and lawyers etc. being on the wrong side (agressor), fùckers being called "victim".
And, when the fùckers land their hits and the cops get harmed, and so may sue the fùckers in justice, said fùckers are obvisouly used to the shit and have no money so barely anything happen in the end.
My cousin is a cop, but he is no dirty harry (i mean i know him), and he really feels frustrated with all this mess, and more an more with the fùckers now aiming to threaten the cops in their everyday life (know where you live, know your kids, wife... all that shit).

Still, what he told me in case of a street fight, whether you can react and land some punch or not etc, and what self-defence coaches usually say too in that kind of situation, is : the aim is to get away from the fight and stop the shit before it's going bad.

So in the end, as frustrating and traumatic as it can be, you did well naki.

Funny : watch Ray Sefo interview about a fight in a crowd at a UFC where he was seating... even him was trying to get away from the mess

Yes, got the plates. Any witnesses had moved on by the time I’d recovered enough of my faculties to even ask, and without wanting to pre-judge I’m not sure any would have been much use. Still a bit pissed no-one even tried to help, one old Auntie asked if I was ok then toddled off.

I’m assuming this guy has some current or prior legal issues (no small thing in SG) which might explain some of his behaviour, he definitely wanted no part of anything official.

In any case, insurance company have requested police report so I’m going to go through all of that. Hardly seems worth it for a scratch on a rented Lexus and a sore shin.
