Murder of Lynette White

It is a 10 minute read but informing and chilling in equal measure. Knew a bit about the case but reading this you sometimes think the 'state' is so terrified of admitting it can make mistakes and employ monsters that it will do anything to it's citizens to prevent the truth.

Some absolutely disgraceful policing was involved in the original fitting up of a suspect. A lot of coppers should have gone to jail. Only for the CPS to feck it all up.

Living in Gwent (Newport) is not without it's troubles, but Gwent police in comparison to South Wales Police are streets ahead in regards to tackling corruption, and general competency. South Wales Police are fking useless.

That case/trial sounds like a complete circus. Was only vaguely aware of it before. What a grim read.

I'd like anyone who wants to bring back the death penalty to read it.

Given the volume of material that was *missing*, and where it was found conveniently after the trial collapsed..... yeah, clearly not the work of more bent coppers /s

Utterly depressing that the case was made against the witnesses who were bullied and threatened into giving false statements over months of "investigation" but the officers involved had theirs collapse.

Very sad reading that.

What also seemed quite sad, in a different sort to the murder and gross miscarriage of justice, is how that community ended up falling apart. Seemed pretty unique, if rough.

Awful, awful stuff.

How the coppers got away with it is shameful for the Welsh judicial system.

Regarding Tigers Bay, it was a dockers/sailors town, rather like the Sherrif Street district of Dublin, and when the docks went, the need for the community went as well, and it turned to petty gangsterism and prostitution to survive. Tempus fugit, and when alternative land uses raise their head, those communities on the bottom move/get moved elsewhere.

Among all the horrors of the case, I had to do a double take on this;
In 2015 the eight exonerated police officers sued South Wales Police for damages. They lost the case.
To that I can only say, "Church bells. The size of fcuking church bells."

I don't think it's the welsh judicial system that is hugely at fault here. It seems little ca be done on the basis of evidence when it all disappears. It's the establishment that allows them to get away with this is the problem.

What a terrible but fascinating read. It's a disgrace that none of those police officers were sentenced - I just can't believe that those files went missing through human error.

In cases where there has been clear conspiracy by law enforcement to pervert justice, the onus should be on them to prove innocence, rather than a prosecution to prove guilt. I know that could be seen as a slippery slope, but there are witnesses who testified that they were coerced into giving false evidence, there was eye witness testimony and a photo fit dismissed in the original case and the murderer himself admitted to acting alone.

It was clear as day that these officers lied, invented evidence and perverted justice - those files going missing should have been used as further evidence of corruption rather than leading to their exoneration.

Whilst not foolproof, it is significant that there has been far few such cases in Scotland. The higher levels of corroboration required are a bugger for any investigation but rarely allows such abuses to take place.
