Both teams have looked rubbish in pre-season, so anyone's game. Rebels should be favourites due to home advantage and a squad with huge depth, but with a donkey like Debra directing them, who knows?

Reds squad is the worst in memory IMO, as is their draw for the 1st 6 weeks. Might get a plucky win if Thorn gets them sticking to the basics.

Not happy if Jack D gets to wear no 10 but maybe he'll prove us wrong. Maybe it was McGahan that was holding him back and is a different player under Wessels. Hoping Rebels by 7 :o

Not sure about English. I'd probably chuck Meakes there. Ratu? Koroibete?

English is a good player and won't disapppoint. Not sure who the better player is between English and Meakes.

Ok.
Regardless, the improvement to the Rebels this year on paper alone is enormous. Easy win to the home side.

I think Rebels pack will have the upperhand. Apparntly they were on top of Tahs pack in the first hafl (when they had close to a full strength team).

Korobiete should be in back in a couple of weeks. Didn't know Maddocks was injured. What happened to him? It explains why Jack D ran at 10 instead of Maddock. I'd have still gone with Horwitz or Taylor Adams instead of Jack D but Wessels obviously thinks Jack D can get the backline to spark.

What's Meaks' injury?

I think they all are quite minor injures, couple of weeks at most. Maddocks had a hamstring tweak, Meeks had off season surgery and will be back soon I think.

Maybe Jack D was picked to ease tension in the group so it's not a total Force take over.

Ex Force players only make up 1/3 of the squad but it won't stop people having a go at Rebels. When they signed Wessels it was inevitable that he brought a lot of his former players with him.

Personally I'd have gone with Horwitz or Taylor Adams (since Maddocks is injured) but I trust Wessels' judgement.

English's best is better than Meakes', altho' English has a touch of the Morahans about him as regards inconsistency.

That's a significant number considering it wasn't a merger. Plus Coleman capt and Wessels coach.

I will have to barrack for the Reds in Australian derbys this season - purely on account of Thorn and the fact they have some exciting up and coming players.

It's a shame to see Perese recently injured. I wonder how Hamish Stewart will go?

Put it like this: you will not be fighting for space on the bandwagon. We welcome newcomers but, concerned folk that we are, we usually enquire as regards their state of mind...

Well, it's like this. I like the yin and the yang of having a main, successful, team and a secondary, loser, team.

Let's hope that Jack D is better in this game than he was in the recent trial, because he was awful in that.

I'm talking standing-10m-out-from-your-own-line-and-attempting-mini-chip-kick-over-the-backline-but-into-the-arms-of-the-oncoming-winger...type awful

If you count Meakes who made the Wallaby squad (did he actually play?) then there is 11.

And I see the Reds have 10 internationals, with the addition of Korczyk and Lance who made the Wallaby squad.

1. James Slipper, 2. Brandon Paenga-Amosa 3. Taniela Tupou 4. Izack Rodda 5 Lukhan Tui 6. Caleb Timu 7. Adam Korczyk 8. Scott Higginbotham (c) 9. James Tuttle 10. Jono Lance 11. Eto Nabuli 12. Duncan Paia’aua 13. Samu Kerevi 14. Chris Feauai-Sautia 15. Aidan Toua Reserves: 16. Alex Mafi 17. JP Smith 18. Sef Fa’agase 19. Kane Douglas 20. Liam Wright 21. Tate McDermott 22. Hamish Stewart 23. Filipo Daugunu

So very even teams, with maybe the slight nod to the Reds.

Brumbies fan know hamstrings well. He has two modes of attack

1. Gets ball, puts on a good move and makes tackler miss. Gets taken down and loses the ball in contact.
2. Gets ball, puts on a good move and makes tackler miss. Takes off in open field, tears hamstring.

CFS actually looked good in the NRC, hopefully it finally comes right for him. Maddocks has a ton of promise, I expect 15 is his natural position though. A similar player to Joride Barrett. One would hope anyway.
