Certainly unacceptable in any form

Doesn't say that they were Scottish supporters but infers it as he is partly blaming Gavin Hastings for inciting such hatred

Unacceptable behaviour.

You may not like your opponents, and their manager, but you leave that dislike for the pitch.
It's far easier to just ignore them off the pitch, if you don't like them.

Of course it's scummy behaviour, but it's pretty naive of Jones to think he was gonna be able to use public transport without encountering similar issues.

Not really, it's Rugby Union after all, not oikball. One might have expected better tbh, sadly not.

Nah - while on the whole rugby fans will be better behaved, they're still not well behaved enough to reasonably assume a prominent coach like Jones would be able to travel on public transport without incident.

And that's before you consider the fact that he coaches England - a team that generates a fair amount of antipathy with opposition fans for various reasons - and the fact that he personally is a fairly prickly character with the press and public.

He was probably provocatively dressed and all (eg, wearing an England scarf).

It's being reported in most of the major news media. There isn't any doubt Eddie Jones reported that he was abused on the way from a football match and he has decided he won't take public transport anymore.

You stupid twat. I'm commenting on the structure of the Mirror link "Eddie Jones Quits", Eddie just quits public transport.

I decry public abuse of anyone, no matter the circumstances. I am a bit puzzled as to how he is blaming Gavin Hastings for it though. I can’t see what he said that could be interpreted as ‘you should have a go at your coach in public’.

His mistake was the 'standard class' bit.

But I did comment on the match thread that some Scottish fans let themselves down a bit.

So, what’s the story here? Eddie’s on a train somewhere between Manchester and London amongst soccer fans, who were travelling back after watching ManU and Chelsea and Eddie gets some aggro from the oiky yobs, and then Eddie blames Gavin Hastings.

Right.

Boooooooooooo-ed off the field after the match too. Can only imagine the uproar if the Twickenham crowd did that to the Celts or talked about rubbing Schmidt or Townsend's face in the dirt.

Unacceptable, and disappointing.

Though his comments, putting blame on Hastings and Berghan 'inciting comments' show him to be an utter hypocrite. He loves to stir the pot himself, playing the media game and picking on individual players.

There are no excuses for the supporters' behaviour, but if he wants to see a more respectful world, he should start practicing what he preaches himself first.

Train out of Edinburgh, not Manchester. A few of the reports say they were Scotland fans. Eddie said moronic comments by Hastings didn't help, which they don't.

In the last few years what's the worst things he's said? "Sexton gets concussed a lot" and "Patchell is under a lot of pressure". Not quite the same is it :?

Ah yes, I see it now
Sources say that at one point Jones was “jostled”, and that the fans involved were Scottish.

Thanks

He said that Sexton's parents should be worried about their son playing. Made it personal, uncalled for and disrespectful.

I stopped listening to his interviews this Six Nations, but he's definitely known as a man who likes to stir things.

He is a total twat who ruins the game for me, but he doesn't deserve to get abused on a bus or train in his private time. Nobody deserves that really, unless they're in a process of abusing someone else. Which I concede he may well have been doing.

Totally agree that it was unacceptable. But blame the supporters, not 1 or 2 Scottish commentators getting overzealous in their victory.
