DO kids who want to go into rugby really need a role model like him? I would rip him a new arsehole but he banned me on both his social media pages :/

I don't understand why people expect sportsmen to be particularly bright. They're mostly thick as mince, and on the whole haven't done anything but play sport since they could toddle.

The days of top rugby players all being doctors or lawyers are long gone.

Don't we already know most devout Christian and Muslim people believe this? Get actually worried when they start going ISIS on them.

I completely disagree with him but isn't he allowed his own beliefs? Should he be banned from playing rugby because he has his own particular values?

Make it public and expect public scrutiny.

How much different is it to calling someone a faggot on the pitch?

Ok. We now know what God's plan for gays are. What we don't know is what Izzy's plan for gays are. Don't kill the messenger.

not banned, but he should lose endorsements from large companies like Adidas and any other company which deals with kids or makes products for kids...its bad business for companies to associated with sports people with his beliefs..this will hurt folau financially and maybe he will learn just like every other celeb.sports personalities out there to learn to keep shut even if he does not believe in something.

I agree but isn't it still his right to express his opinion or should he only express opinion on matters he agrees with that tow the party line?

Is it ok to publicly state your belief in something such as gay rights?

I don't really, see how people who accept someones right to their religious beliefs can have a problem with that. I have more respect for him than people who treat their religion as smorgasbord for what's currently acceptable

I'm a firm believer in absolute freedom of speech, but this will always have consequences, more so if you are a public figure.

Anything to do with pro sport is tied into a brand, which has a value. If any one of those brands that you represent find that your stance on things like this devalue their brand then one consequence may be the loss of endorsement or in an extreme case, your job.

If homofobia is generally considered a branch of bigotry, then in a modern world it's not much better than racism is it?

That's just equality, why would anyone but a bigot have a problem with that?

I don't disagree. What we do need to be careful of is championing our rights to free speech yet punish when we exercise that right. Brands need to be careful as well I believe and it may be something that needs to be considered when entering into an agreement between the two parties.

precisely my stance, its now part of a larger bigotry scale, just like racism, homophobia is also not acceptable my many "developed" countries..there is another thread about ppl being pissed about racist chants in wales in a rugby game, how is this any different? judging people based on their gender is just as bad as judging people based on their skin colour or religion.

Didn't he say something similar during the marriage vote in Australia?

Obviously an absolute idiot but surely he'll have to face some sort of sanction for that. He's one of Australia's highest profile players coming out with shit you'd wince at in the 70's

Contrast that to Pocock who is honestly everything thing a professional rugby player should be on and off the pitch

yeah he said he was against same-sex marriage, now that was his opinion, so its OK, cause he was talking in terms of LAW, but now he is talking "biblically' which is far worse..people should not confuse both his comments as being the same, the first one was OK, it was his "right", the 2nd one ISN''T.

He just answered a question. And the answer he gave is correct, it is what's in the bible whether you believe in the "good book" or not. If you want to ban him for stating what's in the bible then ban the bible too. If the questioner had gone on to ask him if he agrees with that attitude by the good lord then it would be more interesting.

Agreed, but I think this comes more under punishable by law, or violence. If one's bigoted point of view affects their career I'd just call that a consequence.
