This is part of the reason why Sky has continued to invest in satellite technology, with Last saying that it delivers an effective broadcast regardless of the demand - something not guaranteed online, particularly with slower internet connections.

Dropout. Internet's gone.

I’d back spark to be better than skygo.

I'd back Sky TV to be much better than both. I don't stream important games FFS.

I'm on Vodafone TV these days so technically I stream everything.

I guess the worry is that Spark won't be able have anything remotely close to a test run before their first exclusive game. Hopefully they're up to it.

Final is free to air. Not sure about semis but TVNZ is getting 7 games.

7 games?

Nice, so they’ll have;

- the 4 NZ pool games
- the QF vs Scotland
- the SF vs Ireland
- the WTF vs England

Hope they have a decent streaming platform

Big pool games are Wales v Australia and England v France.

I assume they will show NZ v SA free.

Opening match and final confirmed so won’t be that simple. Think it’s going to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some AB’s, some huge matches, some dross.

If it's half-pie decent like the America's Cup app it should be pretty good. I never had any issues with that app.

This won't end well. Apart from the Spark access issues we've just seen that TVNZ doesn't know its arse from its elbow in terms of presenting high-profile sport.

I've come round to the view that Sky Sport is actually a pretty good service. $60 a month for pretty much every sporting event I ever want to see, and the events that Sky also produces are well done. SkyGo needs work, but as said above I don't stream major events.

This is great. Not only will I be able to fork out a once off payment (unlike Sky), I will also get to enjoy all the boomers whinging about streaming.

You do that and I'll watch on VipBox streaming for free.

If you're watching 2 Super Rugby and 2 NRL games a week, how much would that cost in beer money at a pub? $60 is amazing value.

Spark won’t stop here. This is a big investment to get up to scratch. I wonder what sports they would pursue if this works out as well as they hope?

Rural NZ left in the dirt again

NZ Rugby has traded on the Great rural Rugby image for decades and in one swoop of a pen kicks them fairly in the guts

I wonder what they are going to charge commercial premises?

Not that I give a shit. The munters at my Pub can barely manage to get the quiz night cd rom going. No way I'm going to sit round while they inevitably find a way to balls up to rwc final. That's if the Spark app doesn't crash when more than 8 people attempt to log on at once.

I'll get it but will prob have rugbypass as a backup.

 That's a real issue of course - how many people will even have attempted to get the TVNZ streaming functions working? For most people it's just too hard.
