Moving to NYC in a couple of months and looking to join a club for A) the craic and B) the craic.

Will in all likelihood be living somewhere in Brooklyn so if anyone has any suggestions id gladly take them.

For context, 24-year-old Irish graduate :smug:

Cheers fellas.

What's your level of play in your opinion? New York is one of the few places in the U.S. where for rugby clubs you have a wide selection. Do you consider yourself somewhat serious or is rugby just a prelude to drink and social hour? It's also going to be down to where in New York you're actually going to live.

Hit me up at my username@yahoo.com and I can give you the breakdown. I have played or coached 4 teams in the area and know the different levels. Plus also where you will live will matter when it comes to training. Here to help.

Yep, true. I don't know the Brooklyn clubs too well but looks like DT has it handled.

I know I left them for the Brooklyn Club after the Brooklyn Club got set up. It was an hour and half home. So practice finish at Tibbetts at 9 then I wouldn't be home til 1030-11.

Likewise. I used to drive from Williamsburg which was a trek. Then stay up there after the games getting sloshed most of the time without the car.

When did you leave them btw? I'm thinking now your story sounds familiar.

Cheers for the info lads.

Deadtigers ill ping you a message

I'd be relatively serious but need to get myself set up over there and then work will decide how serious I can take it. May end up just taking it handy.

I've played in the states before actually (the Olympic club down in SF) so kind of know the scene. Was great craic being a 20 year old on a college summer being told to turn up at the airport for a game in Arizona/Colorado etc on the weekend.

Well seeing you used to play for O-Club, since DT loves them so much, he'll probably aim you toward Old Blue or NYAC.

I left them around 08 or so but I still know Fingers, Kennedy, Murphy, Chingy and of course Richie and Jerry. If they ever mentioned Junior (a black guy that played hooker) that is me.

Yes, that's you. I used to go with Casey from Brooklyn and would borrow his car when he was away. I only played one year and then left NY but it was a great year of rugby.

We made the playoffs up in Providence and got shafted by the most corrupt fuckers I've ever come across. Checking IDs for the first time ever (our opposition guys said later it was because we hammered Hartford at home by 30 points the week before). And the ref and linesman were just a complete disgrace, blatantly trying to screw us over and make sure we didn't get to go to the national playoffs.

I used to play against the Village Lions, they were a good bunch, enjoyed playing them and having a drink with them post-match. Hopefully they haven't changed too much since those ancient times. Not sure their level is commensurate with what you're looking for but thought I'd moot for them a little
