As an aside, how good are pork chops? I made them the other night, topped with caramelised onions, served with corn on the cob and slaw. f**king great.

Not eating pork products is why the Jews and the Muslims are so angry at each other. Some bacon sarnies or a good roast pork shoulder would sort the whole region out.

That thing about commenting on virtue-signalling being itself a form of virtue-signalling is one of the dumbest things I've heard. It's just criticism, unless we're goign to reductio ad absurdum all criticism and all speech to expressions of superiority. Sorry dudes, I was just having a pop at someone I reckon is a bit of a plum. Like you're all doing now.

You just don't like it as it paints you poorly.

I'm sure all the people you were signalling to were very impressed at how you called out the 'virtue signallers'

I'm not sure who you think I'd be signalling virtue to, but I don't buy the idea that every critical statement is a signal of virtue. It could a signal of contempt, or of various forms of superiority (physical, intellectual, and yes, moral). I know what I'd infer from my initial comment, if I were a neutral third party, and it's not that I was signalling moral virtue. The idea that any critical statement is a signal of some form of superiority seems to be drawing a log bow, but I guess you could go down that path.

But let's assume that you're right, and that any labelling of virtue signalling is itself virtue signalling, and that any subsequent development is also virtue signalling. I wonder who ends up carrying the bag for being the smuggest fuckwit? The 1st generation virtue signaller, the 2nd generation pointer out, or the 3rd generation holier than thou commenter? I'd say that, after the second generation, the smugness of the statement increases exponentially with every generation.

The term has grown since the Brexit referendum and 2017 general election, and has been seen by some as a response by the left to the term "snowflake" to describe easily offended liberal millennials.

The gammon-snowflake clash seems to map the divisions between younger Remain voters and older people who supported Brexit.

The pork-based insult has gained renewed prominence after an article in the Times newspaper reported some were saying it was a racial slur used by those supporting Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to attack middle-aged men.

"Gammon" has been tweeted over 40,000 times in the past 24 hours.

Definitely a racist term if judging it against the standards of today...

Is that a diplomatic way of calling someone a 'pig'?

I wouldn't be surprised if i was the youngest Person posting in this thread, to be honest... Perhaps, though, the lack of meming lends me an air of maturity.

I'm not very hip, but is this the definition of virtue signalling, or is it cultural appropriation ?
I wouldn't know the difference.

Yeah, you need to be careful, cottage cheese is the other end of the spectrum if you don't get the initial temperature right. It's kind of cool though. We started it to try to cut down our plastic use - it doesn't really end up doing that, but will when we can get milk from farmers - but it's pretty fun. We're making our own cheese, too, but we can only really make paneer at this point.
