I've lost a shitload of my hearing, with Tinnitus ringing in my ears like an ex-girlfriend telling me that her mother is coming to visit.
So I can only hear Yanny... if that's all you guys can hear, maybe you need to get your hearing checked out.

Mine's probably mostly congenital (my Mum's almost totally deaf) Though I wonder what contribution I made by loosening an earmuff while standing right next to a 105mm howitzer in youthful curiosity and stupidity. It was like being whacked over the head with a cricket bat.

my two partners who are from normandy, so scum of the earth and historically half french half English, hear a mix of laurel and yanny

It's both, laurel in the lower registers and yanny in the higher. Just depends which one your ears or brain decide to/can focus on.

The first time I played it and wasn't ready for it, I heard it differently on that first voice. Each time since it's been laurel although again I heard that first voice differently without catching it. It's in the pitch I guess and how you process sound.

Same thing happened to me. I heard half a Yanny when I first opened it, but it's been Laurel since.

It's the other way round, I thought.

I - with age related hearing loss and mild tinnitus - hear Laurel, both my kids hear Yanny.

Apparently if you listen on cheap speakers it's more likely to sound like Laurel as they don't reproduce low frequencies as well.

I actually got the missus to listen at the same time to make sure it wasn’t cheating and she got Yanny.

Does it depend on your speaker quality?

I've seen an explanation of why some are hearing Yanny (which is what I'm hearing) and other Laurel. Apparently it has to do with the relative age of our ears. Typically younger people can hear higher pitched sounds more easily than those who are older. The actual recording does in fact say Laurel but thanks to it being overlaid with high frequency sounds those of us with younger ears hear Yanny or something close to that.

The device also has an effect. Mobile devices tend to focus on only the lower frequencies. So you should hear it as Laurel.

What I find interesting about this is that there's some zones on this tool where what I hear depends on which direction I'm moving the slider.

I hear "Laurel" generally, and if I use this slider and go right slowly, I'll still hear Laurel until the 2nd zone from the right. But if I start from the right, I'll hear Yanny and it won't turn into Laurel until much further towards the middle. I guess to some extent you hear what you expect to hear.

Laurel. Without a doubt. I was alone when I first heard it and figured there are simply multiple versions to screw with us. Then I had a group of people listening to the same one and it was all split. Definitely Laurel though.

Yeah I read somewhere that yanny is higher frequency range.

I've heard yanny on my shitty earbuds and tv and laurel through my bose headphones which seems to be make sense.

It's bloody weird listening to one version wondering how the hell you heard it the other way.

This is as exciting as the ice bucket challenge on Facebook.
