You can keep your mediocre, tasteless mush if it makes you feel butch.

Meanwhile I'll be having a curry.

Food snobs on here  , one of the best recent additions to the British high street has been excellent Mexican food, it's seeing off lots of closings of others.

I love both. Chilli is a lot easier to make well relatively quickly though.

Nice big bowl of chilli on a winters night and a fresh loaf of bread and Bobs your uncle.

mmmmm chilli arggggh arggggh arggggh...

I had brain-terrine in Belgium at the WE, was very nice. But then again it was made by an actual chef, not some guy cutting holes in el-cheapo hod dog buns, filling said hole with the worst type of sausage (by a country mile), putting a slice of "cheese" on top, then chilli and some 'erbs (co's adding 'erbs apparently helps to legitimise this as a "recipe").

How on earth are people say if Chilli is tasteless? Have you just eaten the Weatherspoons version?

Mexican is f**king great. Superior to Italian IMO.

Cocoa powder is a good addition. Quite like adding some smoke essence or smoked chipotle as well.

My cousin married a Mexican who’s head chef at a restaurant he co-owns in Wellington. Reception had Mexican street food, soft shell tacos, ceviche... spectacularly tasty and fresh.

Occasionally I put some curry powder in chilli, and cocoa powder too.

For me a bit of cinnamon can be very nice. What usually goes into mine is:

Chilli powder (or fresh)
Lots of cumin
Paprika
Small bit of cocoa powder
Cinnamon (easy to put too much and overpower it though)
Salt

Minus one or two things based on availability in the kitchen.

Served with rice, tortilla chips, corn tortillas or we occasionally make Venezuelan arepas to go with it. Great dish if you're stuck on time, but needs a bit of cooking to get the most of it.
