Rooting for Argentina without much expectation. Would love to see England do well but that won't happen.

It's always a shame the Irish never get behind England, because in the reverse most English and English media will support Ireland.
That's only because we're supporting the England 'B' team.
To expand on my earlier post -

Ireland feel a rivalry with England but England have bigger fish to fry. England imagine a rivalry with Germany but traditionally the German's biggest rivalry has been with the Netherlands. Everyone looks up and around for competition, patronising those below.

In regards to supporting your neighbours, Spurs fans were hardly cheering on their fellow North Londoners in the Cup Winners' Cup Final 1995 and Champions League final 2006.

I'd add Italy to that. When I was in Cologne during the last World Cup, a few Germans were hoping that England would beat Italy, which initially came as a surprise to me, but then it must be like the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool. Not one Manchester United fan I know would want Liverpool to beat City unless it was to benefit them, whereas City always measure their success against United.

That means nothing. England's football supporters making dicks of themselves, singing offensive songs and generally showing disrespect to the locals will always ensure they never get our support or anyone elses for that matter

Italy are up there because of how competitive they are but I don't think that there is the same level of bitterness as with the Dutch. Who could stay angry at the Italians?

I went to the world cup in 2010, going straight from the airport to England vs Algeria. After that abortion of a match some English lad slapped a flag or something out of my brothers hand and told him to "shut the fack up". It was pretty funny to see the anger in his face.

Then we went to the England vs Germany match, the England fans made that a pretty unforgettable atmosphere with their "There were 10 German bombers in the air" and "Two World Wars, One World Cup" songs. The silence from them afterwards was funny too.

Yeah, Argentina would be my second pick as well. Though now we sound like a couple of dodgy bastards with grandfathers formerly known as "Hans", who are now kicking about the back streets of Buenos Aires under the pseudonym Matias.

10 German bombers is an inventive use of she'll be coming round the mountain, to be fair.

I'm sure the krauts have a few songs about 1871 when they play the French.

Amateurs. Macabre took Coming Round the Mountain to whole new levels.

Tis about Jeffrey Dahmer, so safe to say (lyrics-wise, no offensive visuals) it's not safe for work (or pretty much anything).

I have zero interest in this, don't like Messi AT ALL, here in ARgentina lots of people call him "pecho frío", something like "cold chest" (on a rugby parallel he could be the Ronald O'Gara of football).

UNTIL I watched this, then I got 0,1 additional interest in this.

Last World Cup saw some poorly controlled and quite dangerous experiments involving Caiperhina cocktails.

Any tips on Russian cocktails and vodkas?

1) That hasn't stopped people supporting our Premiership teams, in most Irish people's case barely able to name the players from a team from their the Irish leagues.

2) So how's this different to Italian, Spanish, German, Argentinian supporters?

3) It's a small minority of supporters from any country.

The fact you don't know why we don't shout for you and cheer for every opponent you play speaks volumes but isn't at all surprising.

England are basically a mini version of Glasgow Rangers when it comes to their supporters. I ain't following that.

Yes that's fair.

I always support the Celtic Nations in the tournaments and hope/presume it's recipricated etc.

As for this tournament, Spain heavy favourites for me. Germany and Brazil just behind. Also... please, please anything so that Neymar doesn't win.

England to hopefully get to the Qtr Finals is my only wish. Even if it's a presumed favourable draw considering, it would be nice to just get back to military medium and then build from there. Anything more and I'll be in disneyland

Yes, England are the worse. With Ultra's and nazi support right across Europe and record killings in South America. It's England with some of the lowest levels of violence, hooliganism and far right associations who are singled out. With virtually no evidence another iarmhim generalisation of entire peoples to be taken as fact .

I'm pretty sure they have one of the largest followings world wide.

Popularity of the fans no they aren't well liked we get that, but the team gets an awful lot of support from around the globe. Oddly, South Korea for example are very keen into the english team/premier league etc.

I'll give you a clue. Man Utd, Liverpool, Celtic and Arsenal fans haven't rioted in our city and thrashed our stadium unlike another national teams supporters draped in union jacks and Georges Crosses.

English football fans are pretty objectionable and their edgy posturing and criminal damage does lack the roguish hi jinx of the Irish for example.

When a knife wielding terrorist entered a London Bridge pub shouting "Allah Akbar" to be greeted by "Fuck off, I'm Milwall" from a guy who took a few slashes, I was however somehow proud of their sort.

In that scenario the Millwall bloke was minding his own business having a pint. If only the twats touring to England away games would just do the same.

Anyway best of luck to them winding up the Russians. That should end well.

I wonder if the reputation that the English fans have acquired is self-perpetuating. The Irish and the Scots must travel with their fair share of shady characters but people like to feel welcomed, and long to be held close by the locals with sweet nothings about the craic whispered in their ears.
