Ah fair fucks Earl Messi has been outstanding this game he’s running the show and what a goal he scored

See if you can see the difference behind being both the main goal scorer and creator in a team, having to come deep to actually trying to get the ball and playing against a team that is compact at the back and being an out and out forward who relies on service from other players playing in a relatively open game because both teams want to keep possession?

Ronaldo is better at penalties than Messi, there's no doubting that. But Messi's performances this season and over his whole career show why he's a better player than Ronaldo.

Even Messi. In fact, that's actually one of the few metrics by which he can be said to be the equal of Ronaldo!

Again Earl, how many people on the Portugal team would make the Argentina squad?

Ronaldo has to be the creator and goal scorer while Messi can be either but not both. I bet you CR wishes he had an Aguero or ADM to help his attack.

I don't think he's allowed on the pitch.

I doubt that Pen. He should not be so dramatic in his fall.

Have you seen the replay? Pavon was clearly fouled.

Iceland are a tricky physical opponent just ask England.
A draw or better is a result.
It’s hard to play against 11 goalies.

Argies got plenty of late goals in the last world cup. I think we're going to see another one in this game.

Yeah, but maybe it is the old football FB in me that it was minimal contact for all that flopping. Not sure outside the box it would be a foul, especially considering how a Iceland player was just taken out on a slide tackle and the replay showed no ball contact.

You mean the replay where the argentine player got the ball and put it out for a throw?

It's a clear foul in the box. Not sure what the VAR is there for if not that

Argentina is playing good football. Iceland has 11 defenders and we are struggling in the last 20 meters.

But with the attacking talent they have on display (including the greatest player the world has ever seen © ETB) Argentina should make mincemeat of them

TBF this is perfectly set up for a Messi injury-time winner.

As he usually does in La Liga.

I don't think they vary their game enough. They should put through the odd cross.

Let’s see how the others do against them.
Messi looks like a one man team.

not sure which play you saw but the tackle went through the Iceland player clearly making contact with the player first.

He has more help than CR7 and against an inferior opponent oh and a missed pen!

Any reason why a talent like Dybala hasn't featured here?

Centerfielders are too static and they should open the game to the corners to open that defence.
