I presume this is somehow related to this new data protection thing.
Seems like every web site has a new accept cookies pop-up that blocks most of the webpage till you click "accept".
Very irritating.

Cookies are total and utter shite.
I have zero interest in a web site "providing me with a better experience".

Actually they're critical. The protocol is stateless so cookies are very necessary to know who you are and do things like stopping you from having to login on every request. Noting that tokens are widely used for this now days.

Everyone is just covering their butts due to the new data collection and protection regs

Seems like every service I've used my email for has been sending me their privacy policy this week.
