I'd go Furlong regardless
He got eaten alive by a 23 year old who doesn't have any scrumming chops to his name. Good around the park though; although not as good as Tupou, who also happens to be able to do his main job (scrummaging) exceptionally well.

Furlong should play in the backrow or something. NZ will skin that pretender.
Lions series proved otherwise.

Deserved a nibble though.

He had a massive clear out against Conway in the Pro14 semi. Sent Conway barrelling over backwards.
That pocock one is immense, though. Pocock was already low and latched onto the ball and just got rinsed.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no1 furlong fanboi, but with a clear run up most props would shift pocock there. That’s no slight on Tige.

Ah yeah, he has the physics on his side. Still good technique to get it right on target. Was very important given the influence Pocock had the week before.

Can we just change this to the Tadgh Furlong jizzfest thread.

Some player and only 25. If he keeps it up he'll be the first prop to win WR POTY.

Two things.

Pocock’s technique is phenomenal.
He’s already jackalling as Henshaw hits the deck.
It could be argued that he’s part of the tackle and never released but that might be a bit harsh.

Furlong’s clean out is like a runaway train hitting a car stuck on a train track crossing.
He just lifts him off like a fork lift.

That was a real statement to dissuade Pocock.

Fair comment ... but now post the YouTube clips of Pocock getting shifted out from a similar position ... it ain't so common ...

Still trying to figure out why Pocock was not as effective as the previous week. The Irish guys all played the week before and knew they were up against the Pooper ... was a change-up in intensity all that was needed ? Then why did it not happen the week before ?

I am still keen to see a properly fit Leavy make the side this week and see whether he helped tip the balance in the first half ...

I assume its a 'basics done well' type of thing. Taking the ball right to the line so the defence doesn't know if he's going himself, passing to Healy, out the back door to Henshaw, or inside to Furlong, committing defenders to each option.

I realise as kiwis you take this sort of stuff for granted, but believe it or not, its quite rare in the rest of the world.

Support players were pre-latching on to the ball carrier before contact or before the tackle was complete. In the same movement as driving into contact they'd slide over the carrier and engage/clear out the defenders. Meant there were never that split second of daylight that Pooper need to get at the ball before the ruck properly forms.

That tactic can be risky as the ref can interpret it as sealing off, think we were done for going off the feet a couple of time.

He also shaped as if he was going to pass out the back, look at his head and the slight wind up to the pass, before shifting it flat to Healy. See how Beale shot up looking to smash Henshaw behind the gainline. Last week that's exactly what would have happened.

Last week Aus ate up that out the back play, so it was good to see some direct running like that.

Not an outrageous play or anything, but a basics done well, as you say.

He was really bloody good in the open. Didn't dominate the set piece by any means, but was very bloody handy.

I hope Tupou starts in Sydney so we can compare them with similar time on the pitch.

Kiwi attitude to propping. Get a guy who normally, at worst, is solid but can add a lot more around the pitch. They usually have more of them due to depth, we're lucky to have one and have high hopes for another in Porter.

Ireland made 5 changes to the pack, pretty much all to the better in terms of clearing out. I'd nearly include Toner there, definitely on fitness but even in a straight fight this season.
