That is what four years with the Oilers will do to a guy.

McDavid has taken some punishment lately. An opposing player coughs near Pettersson and Canucks fans become outraged. A game last week McDavid gets crosschecked in the back and goes head first to the boards with a ref five feet away looking on, no call. Oilers fans, and I am not one of them, should be upset.
Yes they should. Not just at the no call, but at no other Oiler went out of his way to make the guy pay. How much longer will McDavid stay in Edmonton anyway? 1 more GM or 2 years I figure. That franchise is a mess.

The league has changed, in the NHL guys like me and hornets were raised on, an opposing player would have the shit kicked out of them. The lack of body contact in the NHL that past few years is very noticeable: There have been a number of "no hitters" lately. The hockey in the NHL is still of a very high standard, but it is different, very European.

McDavid is not going anywhere. The Oilers have to make the playoffs for business reasons. Last spring about 20 middle managers at Rogers Place were canned; with the exception of a few U18 games last summer, the arena sat empty. Concerts have dried. Season ticket holders and corporate sponsors will bail this summer.

Agree that they need to make the playoffs. But if they miss out and hire another incompetent GM/coach, I can see McDavid demanding a trade. Hell, I would. He seems like a competitive guy who wants to win, he will only put up with this losing for so much longer.

The officiating in the NHL is a joke. All stars, not just McDavid get abused.

The league has evolved, beyond staged fighters (which I didn't like) and past reactionary fighting as well.

I actually like how the game has evolved, but feel the biggest thing holding the league back is the officiating and supplemental discipline.

The league didn't think this hit warranted any further discipline:

Pretty much agree with this post actually, except the last line. League officiating is a joke, it's simply ridiculous. All teams can point to an incident against one of their players and say that there should have been some punishment or it should have been more severe. The plugs on every team's roster need to realize that the star players are who the fans pay to see and hence the ones who are really paying their salary. Why the league won't protect them more is beyond me. Also, the league should have the eyesight of their officials check weekly.

Very few persons like the stage fights; they are a joke. Thirty years ago the NHL had guys like Cam Neely, Dave Taylor, Clark Gillies: big, tough mothers who were all stars. Now there is Tom Wilson, and non-Caps fans want him out of the league. Try and find the Gillies/Hospodar fight. Jethro was some player. The NHL has sure changed.

His stepmom stopped in my biz during Christmas season, very nice lady. Jarome is in Boston during the school season and heads to Kelowna for the summer. I remember the classic Flames/Canucks series in 2004. Jarome became the 'modern' Gordie Howe. Canadian hockey seems to not make them like him anymore.

This is true. We stay just along the road from him and often surf outside his place, but last couple of summers he's hardly there. Not a bad summer pad he has too.

Tough, honest and fair hombre.

Edit, loads of other superlatives. I'm just lazy.

Sounds like Pettersson will not be back tonight but should be back for Sunday's game against Detroit.

Demko starts for the Canucks tonight! Finally get to see what, 1 of our, goalie of the future has in him.

Pettersson back, got another multi-point game.

Oilers keep on Oiling, their pants. Another tough weekend. How much longer will McDavid put up with this? Even if there is a new GM and coach next year, will he stick around for it or demand a trade?

BTW, Oilers put two bums on the waiver wire, preparing for a trade?

I told you above McDavid is not going anywhere. You should listen. I am connected in this town. My barber's cousin's nephew's friend does the dishes at Connor's favourite restaurant. My gossip is solid.

McDavid was not raised to bail on anyone or anything. The Oilers need four wingers and three defencemen (good ones) to push up the standings. It is a lot. Lucic might have to be bought out - ouch! I would probably look to trade the German for a couple of wingers (good ones).

Yeah, the Oilers want to keep McDavid, I would too. I am not saying that any trade involving him is from the team's choice. Just if this circus continues, I can see him forcing the issues - probably be another season before that scenario could occur.

Trade Draisatl, is not a bad option. A year ago I thought the Canucks should offer sheet him, kind of glad they didn't know. Buying out Lucic, wow things are getting desperate up there. Have read that the waiver moves are because the Oilers need to clear cap space to bring Sekera off of IR. Wow are they a mess, don't where they are in the standings and under cap pressure.

It's a dark day for the rest of the NHL - the Oilers have fired their GM. Not a dark day because they are going to turn that mess around, that will take years, but a dark day because there is one less GM out there for the other teams to take advantage of.

A sad day indeed, but there is a silver lining.

I honestly believe the Oilers and their fans believe this will turn that organization around.

It will not.

Their prospects suck, their drafting history sucks, their scouting sucks, their player development sucks.

Benning gets a lot of ridicule but his best work was convincing the owners, who are very meddlesome, to do a rebuild. Once that was done the Canucks moves were better and made sense.

They are only on version 4? Has to be 5 or 6 now. What a mess they are.

Flames managed to retool on the fly. Canucks go through one rebuild and are already a head of the Oilers. Neither organization gets the benefit of a top 3 pick, let alone 4 number 1s!

Actually, I agree.

This version of the Oilers franchise actually reminds me of the Canucks of the 80s. Good owners but complete incompetent management from top to bottom. Quite impressive how useless they all are.

I see where you are getting at. By good owner, I was mostly meaning, willing to bank roll the franchise appropriately. He is not being cheap, but yeah, he is allowing for a lot of horrible decisions to be made. Again, what the Canucks owners were like in the 80s. Once they hired Quinn, is when the righted that ship. He needs to fire all the top management and needs to bring in new people.

TLDR:

Canucks - Tanev
Flames - Petterson

Entertaining late HNIC game. Flames and Canucks heading to OT: 3-3. Markstrom has been outstanding in the Vancouver net. Some of the Flames pressure in the offensive zone has been impressive. Fun game.

Great OT. No scoring in it. Heading to a shootout, which I hate.

Canucks win the SO. A huge win for Vancouver. Flames still get one point with the loss. Well played.

I heard he let in two goals on the first two shots he faced. We did not get the game out here. Was he that bad? Were the Canucks that bad in from of him? Or a little of both?

Markstrom saved the Canucks against the Flames on the weekend.

Canucks were horrible infront of him. 2nd goal was a deflection off of Hutton's hand, who was trying to catch the puck. Players admitted as much after the game that they were embarrassed with themselves for how the played in front of him.

In a totally unrelated event, Canucks have traded a 2020 7th round pick for Marek Mazanec from NYR.

It is a great story. We love stories where people from non-hockey countries lace up the blades: keep your sticks on the ice boys, and girls. When I flew to Germany a couple of years back I was going through the Air Canada channels and they showed the Australian Ice Hockey championship. It was great to watch.

That trade is one for "Trade Deadline Day," with all of the talking heads discussing it for five hours, with Kypreos talking in detail about the player's contract.

Well that was ugly last night. Brutal to watch, the Canucks couldn't complete a pass FFS. Pettersson almost tied the game on one moment of brilliant play but they rest of the game the team was awful. Really felt sorry for Markstrom, he was the only one that looked good out there. Thankfully I always have the Oilers to fall back on to lift my spirits up.

Benning, if you are reading this, do not trade away any of our young assets this trade deadline. Try to trade some of the veteran plugs for picks and youth! We still need another legitimate top 6 forward and about 4 new defencemen with Tanev and Edler being out.

Think I would rather watch Canada play Brazil again than last night's Canucks game, yes, it was that bad.
