Ha, I wish. More obscure. I do have more Canadian ancestry than I realized though.

5 - 2 Canucks last night. Didn't expect that. Pettersson is looking the real deal, nice start to his season. Flames still have the same problems, goal and coach.

Pens kick the extra point to win in OT...

Maddening game - but also mad fun.

The defence + Murray look as sharp as they did last season. Massively concerning.

At 6-4 up you just knew the Pens would do it tough to close the game out. Bone-headed turnovers and it's 6-6 in the blink of an eye. :frown:

Sid just too much in OT, tho - thank fark...

Rangers lose their home opener to the Preds. The tank is on.

Nothing like a good start with Petterson shining to raise expectations for the 'nucks

Not the NHL, but ...

https://www.bbc.com/sport/av/ice-hockey/45777251

Giants' audacious 'pants goal' ruled out

Belfast Giants forward Patrick Dwyer scores an audacious 'goal' by backing into the Milton Keynes Lightning net with the puck stuck in his kit, but the referee rules the play dead.

"The puck got stuck in my pants and once I realised it was there I just backed into net to see if it would work but unfortunately they didn't count it as a goal," said Dwyer.

The referee took a few moments before making his decision on the incident, which happened during the Giants' 7-0 hammering of the Lightning in Belfast on Saturday evening.

Let's not get too carried away, only some reporters are comparing him to Gretzky right now.

Canadian teams off to decent starts. Vancouver and Ottawa doing some nice work under tough conditions. The one benefit of being crap the past few years has been the drafting of some quality talent on the Canadian teams. I saw Boeser finally found the back of the net. He might need 20-30 games to get back his groove.

Hopefully Pettersson will be back soon, he has shown great ability so far. I think much of the suspension has also to do with the lawsuit the NHL is facing from former players. They can now say that they are doing something about head injuries. Let's see what happens when a 'star player' is the perp in such a play.

Oilers are still being Oilers.

I wasn't worried about Boeser, him like Joulevi (who is supposed to be playing very well in the A right now) both had to overcome injuries in the summer and do rehab, both were going to have slow starts. Boeser has come around a bit sooner then I expected actually.

Man, my Rangers suck this year. Hank will be Eli, a retiring great on a team full of kids. He should have been traded but maybe he wants to Marty Brodeur it and be a one team guy. Which is fine but it will be a long season. And the back-up will not be as good as Talbot or that kid from last season, or was it two seasons ago. Anyway at least we are scoring more, playing faster and have a new coach. Small miracles and all that.

Rangers are in an advertised tear-it-down rebuild. If Hank is playing well (and so far so good) he may be traded at the deadline to a contender. Same goes for Zuccarello who has been a great for this team over the years.

It's all about blooding the kids who should be leading this team in 2020 or so.

So far Dan Quinn seems like a good appointment. Just have to not look at the record and focus on the play improvements and some of the young guys being given a chance ( Chytil, Howden, DeAngelo, Pionk).

It's a crying shame Lundqvist didn't win a cup with the Rangers. The future still looks quite bright between the pipes potentially with Shestyorkin as our stellar goalie prospect coming out of the KHL next year.

Caught the Pens/Leafs game.

Was a decent watch. :D

Letang has been awesome to start the season! Really happy for Murray - great game.

Once Crosby rejoins the team, the Pens will be alright...

Forgot about the KHL league as it was out of side, out of mind.

Holy fucking balls!

Sid's OT winner. Goddamn.

Pens are a mess - but I'll take the win.

I just about jumped off the couch when I saw the goal last night. Poor Strome. What was he doing on the ice in OT? Against Sid, too.

It was a fun game to watch. There was some outstanding talent on the ice.

The Rangers won in a shootout again. I think all of their wins have been a shoot out. This team is so bad but at least they are scoring. No 1-0 games for these kids.

He has all the makings of a true superstar. The last player that excited me like this was Bure. By the way, in the rookie scoring race he has 15 points (in 9 games) next guy on the list has 8 points.

Wow

Flames in First 34 pts, nice to see the good guys doing well.

Van seems to have crashed back to earth, Oilers hell they never got the rocket to the launch pad (such a garbage organization).

Leafs made a trade today Leivo for Nylander, pretty good by them. Canucks get some winger depth now.

As for Hornets comments, our drop in the standings has directly coincided with our injury list. Why can't this team even remotely stay healthy? In fairness, we are 1 top 6 forward (LW preferably), 1 Top pair D man away from being a serious playoff threat.

Word is Leivo will play tomorrow and probably be on a line with Horvat. He should improve the top 9 in Van, LW is one area where we don't have any good forwards. When healthy we have good depth at centre and decent at RW. D is still a disaster though.

Seattle is now in, start playing in the 2021 - 2022 season. Arizona moves from Pacific to Central division to accommodate. Hopefully the Canucks got a promise from the NHL to allow for this. Since the Canucks are hosting the draft next summer, 'winning' the draft and picking 1OA is a nice consolation prize for an encroachment on their territory.

Will the establishment of a Seattle franchise undermine the profitability/popularity of Vancouver?

Potentially. Toronto and Buffalo both have opposed a second Toronto area team based on that argument.

On the other hand, adding a local rival might be seen as adding something to the Canucks. Those Pacific West derbies could become something special.

Does this mean the dream of the Nordiques return is dead?

I don't think so Canny. The amount of people who travel from WA to BC for a hockey game per year would about 3. So it won't affect crowd numbers but may affect things like merchandise sales. Probably quite a few (northern) WA'ers would support Canucks over, say SJ, so we may lose them. So that will affect merchandise and TV viewing, but not much else.
