She attempted to enter the UAE on an expired Swedish PASSPORT. Not visa, PASSPORT. Good luck pulling that off in any country in the world.

She then attempted to switch out and use an IRANIAN passport instead, with no visa. Yup. SHe's an Iranian immigrant. Please enclose any sweeping generalizations about Iranian immigrants and their temper below.

She was offered a FOUR DAY short stay visa to get things resolved. She wasn't even being denied entry. 4 days would have been enough to get an emergency travel doc sorted.

She then got angry (must have been her Iranian genes, not her pure aryan Swedish ones) at the processing fee (typically 150aed), and according to the immigration staff became abusive and started taking photos of the secure area/personnel. NO airport authority will allow this to happen. Hell, try that in Dallas and they'll shoot your ass.

She was held at the airport WITH her child for less than 24 hours. The holding area there isn't a prison cell, it's a waiting room, with amenities, freedom to move within and meals available. Anyone unable to enter, regardless of their attitude is held there and it's just the purgatory of an airport, not the black hole of Calcutta. Calm your panties about that one.

Luckily, being a white (ish) woman, they simply dropped charges and deported her. Anyone getting on their high horse about this one should understand that this was pretty lenient by any standards and no more than what would have happened in many other places, including your Londons, Stockholms, Zanzibars and Brisbanes of the World.
All you white knights still attempting to get on your high horse have been remarkably silent about the mistreatment of those poor little Bangladeshi blokes who got locked up the other day for overstaying their visas, and nothing has been said about the Indonesian housemaids locked up for having an affair and given birth while in the country, unmarried.

But yeah, a white (ish) woman kicks up a fuss about her own crap attitude getting her in the shit, and you lose your minds.
Flaw in that story.

How was she able to get out of her departure airport with an expired passport?

You will not be allowed to board if your passport has expired, or your documents are not in order, because it comes back on the airline. Some places require 6 months left on your passport before it expires. Passports are scanned before you depart.
Maybe she left on her Iranian passport? You'd think someone would be stopped departing with an expired passport, maybe the Swedish immigration control just wanted to be rid of her?
Details of passports are communicated between departure and arrival airports, which the airlines are required to do, otherwise it is on them to return people immediately to where they came from. So an attempt to use different passports would immediately raise a red flag.

Damage limitation.

Whatever, the issue is more about her treatment. Someone is stretching the truth.
Nope. I depart on one passport and arrive on another all the time. It's not an issue.
It can cause a bit of a delay as they can't clear you in advance on that passport. They use the PNR to get advance data about incoming passengers. This is the data Obilex was on about. Changing in flight is ok (they just have a closer look) but I believe that leaving with a different passport than the one you entered with can cause a problem.

Yeah, the issue is returning to a country you left on a different passport. Pretty sure that's not the case in here, but it's something I'll avoid doing.
I often vary the passport I use depending on the visa status or similar, and sometimes it helps to inform the airline that the visa for another country is in a separate passport, so they can be sure that you're legal to be accepted on arrival, and won't be in INAD for the airline to deal deal with and potentially be fined for.
Most immigration and airline staff are pretty used to people with multiple passports and can get their heads around this, the exception being US officials.

Aint nobody got time for that.

I notice you edited out the part that I had a second source of information that corroborated the link I provided, because of course that would undermine you even further.

She's lied her ass off about much of the episode, but you ate it up, not knowing any better. You're now too emotionally invested in it (as usual) to back down with any grace so you're proceeding to fling shit around and turn it into a much broader discussion involving your own personal antipathy in an attempt to make up for it.

Again, we've seen this from you time and time again.
No mate. You're full of shit. If you bothered to read what I wrote, it's plainly obvious that I'm neither being emotional nor "flinging shit around". It's a totally reasonable and calm response. But by all means, keep trying to spin it your way. I'm confident that's pretty transparent to anybody who bothers to actually read what I wrote.
Your original post is there for everyone to see, unless you're trying to edit as we type.
As is your entire posting history.

My sister was there with friends and they got hassled morning, noon and night by local menfolk, including one incident that would have turned very ugly if police hadn't intervened. Couldn't wait to get home.

Maybe they just picked a bad resort or they were perceived as being "up for it" because they weren't accompanied by husbands/boyfriends/etc but something like that puts people off visiting.
My sister and some friends experienced the same thing in South America. Although not to the extent of getting the police involved.

Never experienced it in Turkey or UAE but with my girlfriend in Morocco I was expecting the same based on some reviews from people here, it actually wasn't that bad although huge pain in the ass with people hassling you to buy something.
My wife had that issue in India when she wasnt around me.
Huge issue there for women.

Would Uthikoloshe not visit Indonesia or Malaysia?

We have lived here for 18 months and not seen anything like this. The missus has never had any issues in Istanbul or any other cities we have visited for a holiday or on work trips. Not doubting this happened as some men can be pigs but it's much more progressive along the coasts than I imagined it would be before we moved here. I think it's a great spot to be honest.

I read an interview with Jerry Hall once and she told an interesting story. When she was 16 she took acid at a house party and found herself looking in a mirror. She was astonished at what she saw. She realised she was astonishingly beautiful and would be able to go to New York and have a life travelling the globe and marrying rich men.

I imagine you had a similar experience aged 16. You looked in the mirror and realised that you were cool beyond the bounds of ordinary mortals and this coolness would elevate you to a life in which you would know everything and tell us all about it.

While I do believe that you spend your time reading interviews with ageing supermodels, it's a long walk to try to shoehorn that analogy into the thread.
But yeah, you got me, I did have a bit of an epiphany at age 16. Not realizing that I was astonishingly beautiful (I'd known that for years), but realizing that I didn't want some boring, traditional life with a regular job, a settled, predictable existence where I could tell you exactly where I would be in 20 years from now.

Yeah, apart from not having Mick Jagger trying to get into my pants, I'm just like Jerry Hall.

Turkey is cool, been 5 or 6 times, but not for about 10 years.

The locals are friendly, and the food is good. And at that time the Muslim thing wasn't a big deal apart from the morning calls from the mosque, which to my surprise, was situated right next to a pub.

Interesting historical sites too, old roman ruins, and the fire mountain where the Chimera was slain.....and they all knew about Gallipoli and were well surprised when I told them about Ataturk park in Wellington. Also don't charge for a visa if you have a Kiwi passport, but they do charge the Brits and Aussies.

I believe Erdogan is changing things though, and not for the better. The devalued lira should make holidays well worthwhile. Love to go back. Beautiful coast around Kemer and Tekirova.

I would love to hear that. It's one of the most beautiful sounds. I could easily wake up to that every day. Sane goes for Islamic architecture, I think it's amazing.

To be clear about my views on Islam (for the thousandth tine, not that anyone is listening), it's only the ardent adherence to an archaic doctrine and the dark aged shit that is packaged with it ... and more than that, "progressive" people doing acrobatic backdflips to defend it rather than condemn it, that I have an issue with. The predictable treatment of women as inferior happens to be one of them.

The benign cultural aspects I think are beautiful and diverse and sometimes awe inspiring.

Similar incident happened to my younger sister in Tunisia after their cruise ship docked. She was only about 14 at the time but tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. Herself and my mother went to a local market and the vendors were trying to drag her into their stores along with loads of whistling and staring. She ended up getting very upset until 2 dutch lads spotted what was happening and literally acted as bodyguards either side of her until they made it back to the ship
