Haven't seen reaction from any other Aussies, but the news that McMahon will miss the World Cup to stay in Japan came as a shocking blow to me, and I'm struggling to get over it. The sort of player who can change the course of a game, and take all his teammates with him in the process, his absence will mean a ton of work to be done to develop other backrow possibilities, and in a very short time. Going to take me a long time to recover from this one...

There are better options but Cheika has to pull his thumb out of his arse now and get them up to speed.

Dempsey
Valentini
Cottrell

And Samu needs to be culled now. He’s Hooper Lite.

LFG is also keen to come back for a crack at the RWC. He is also more valuable to the Wobs than McMahon and/or Samu.

Old news...

And McMahon >>>>>>>>> Gill

McMahon was a beast last year - easily the Wallabies best player, whereas Gill would be the third choice number 7 and has not done anything at test level.

Yeah Id prefer McMahon to Gill.
But as has been said there are alternatives at 8 who can cover.
Add Naisarani to that list who becomes eligible.

He must be on a massive salary in Japan. Strikes me like playing roundball football in UAE or china. Massive salary for playing mediocre opponents.

Ultimately, our best back row based on form over of the last couple of years would be 6. Fardy 7. Pocock 8. McMahon... but that's not going to happen with 2 of the 3 not wanting to come back to Australia.

McMahon was a better version of Hooper last year, but just a bit a bigger and a reasonable 4th lineout option.

Naisarani could be great if he's consistent...

Valetini might have a bright future but is still young and fragile...

Dempsey had an immense couple of games last year but will need to see if he can return to the same form after such a long term injury...

And I feel that Cottrell is only in the mix only because of injuries to others... good Soup player nonetheless.

That's a bit harsh - maybe he genuinely prefers the challenge of playing a tougher level of rugby than he would experience in Australia?

I'm not surprised. Where does he fit in?

Poey is one of the top 5 players in the world, and Hooper is currently captain. Even Cheika isn't mad enough to play the McPooper. He'd have to put Folou and DHP in the lineout.

Even with a change of coach/captain...is he better than Hooper? Possibly, but how much would you be willing to bet on it if you were in his shoes?

Probably the last ball carrier the Wobs have had who could get over the gain line.

Gill is out for at least a month with a back injury. Just FYI.
