I just picked up a rumour that Luatua was quitting Bristol and heading back to where he belongs to qualify for for AB's RWC 2019.

Anybody care to confirm /deny?

Seems to be nothing about this anywhere. Doesn't seem likely he was head hunted by the God Squad to go to Bristol, would be odd to bail so soon unless he is homesick.

He's on something like a million $NZD a year. Why would he pass that up for a few more test caps? Maybe Hansen has promised him the no.8 post-RWC? If he did come back he's be very handy. And the unhappiest man in NZ would be Akira Ioane.

He didn't sound like he was considering coming back in this interview posted last week.

it's been brought up once or twice in rumour columns of papers here that Luatua was on his way out of Bristol, and that Bristol were lining up Victor Vito as a replacement

news is a few days old, but it seems he's made a definitive choice
Steven Luatua has given up any hope of playing again for the All Blacks by signing a two-year contract extension with Bristol in the belief that the Bears will soon challenge for the Premiership title.

“It was a pretty easy decision for me,” says the 27-year-old back rower Luatua, who joined Bristol last year after winning 15 caps for New Zealand. “The All Blacks came into it a little bit but there are no guarantees in international rugby. I wanted to do the best for my family and felt I had a lot more to give to Bristol.

“The Premiership is our goal. We have good players, a strong management team and a backer who is all for us and gives us support. We have wonderful fans and everything at the club is geared to success. We know that as players we have to do better on the field and when you look at the table, we can make the top six.”

As good as Vito is you don’t want to start bringing back blokes in the 30s when you have young talent coming through.
