Now this should get the Jafas into the park. Crowd should be 10k+, maybe.

In an unprecedented move, entry to the Auckland v Canterbury provincial rugby final at Eden Park next Saturday will be free.

The Mitre 10 Cup Premiership match, which is at the earlier than scheduled time of 4.05pm because the All Blacks play Australia in Yokohama at 7pm, is hoped to attract a big crowd.

I watched the highlights of both the big Aussie finals and it left me wondering what rugby is doing wrong to not get that level of support. Probably having a strong international tier.

I'm living right by Eden Park. Close enough that I can see it out my kitchen window and when it's a packed house I mute the TV and listen to the crowd (so only ABs games)

But I dunno if this will motivate me to go... I'll see what's happening on Saturday

It'll be close to a full house if there was a waterfront stadium

Anyway, 4.05pm is about time most people would've done their shopping and all the cafes will be closed by then, so it is a good time.

go on, get along to it. You can always walk out at halftime when the Cantabs are 20pts up.

Number 52 will be there, he's lazy but he'll score a couple of tries and make a few try saving tackles.

On a technical point of order it is only the top 51 available players out of the country. Factoring in guys like Crockett who don't meet that criteria, certain lazy players may be pushed out to a ranking closer to 60th.

the thing about NZ rugby is that they got more depth than the Mariana trench..so even the 52 best player onwards will be far more interesting to watch than a game featuring Irish players

That's true, and there are some reserve Highlanders development team loose forwards that will be in the rankings as well. I say we push it out to 70 to be safe.

All Hurricanes coaches before Boyd. I'm not sure of its origin.

Only the top 32 isn't it? The 19 who are only traveling for the Japan game are available as far as I know. If not Canterbury may as well forefit now as that would mean no Romano, Whitelock, Drummond, Cameron, or Bridge.

‘The fudge’s wrong with you staywees.

Get down there and watch it.

And that other thread of moaning about $27 for a match ticket. Christ!!

Yet you’ll happily fork out the same for avacado on toast with a flat white.

NZ has gone to shite. Or is it just Auckland?

Auckland rugby running this game at a loss.

Half the country is in your city and you resort to rent a crowds?

The shame.

They’ll make more money at the concession stands than they have all year from paid games if they get even a half full stadium.

I would be utterly shocked if the Auckland Rugby Union ran any outlets at Eden Park. This isn't a suburban club ground. Typically these would be independent businesses that would rent the premises off Eden Park.

Well, it kind of is a suburban club ground for the purposes of the Mitre 10
Cup but that’s beside the point. NZR would get a cut of any of that sweet, sweet hot dog moolah

Not necessarily. Would depend how the outlets are run.

This is a loss-making exercise that is being undertaken to increase the crowd at Eden Park for two important reasons;

1) They may return to provincial Rugby as paying customers in 2019. The easiest customers to attract are return customers, and
2) A big crowd may help the team win a title. This would be a massive boon for the team, especially given the ultra-competitive Auckland sporting scene, and greatly enhance their ability to attract sponsors next season. So in the end, a win would easily offset the financial loss made from not selling a few thousand tickets.

I will say though that not many of these Auckland players will have played in front of big crowds. And the pressure will increase the larger the crowd is. This could play into Canterbury's hands.

I only caught the highlights on PR, but it seemed to me that 52 was making a big statement in the semi against Wellington. Perhaps he was lazy only in the non-highlight reel.

Large crowd? You're dreaming. They'll get 10k probably. School finals get that much.

The reality is apart from a few of us diehards, no one gives a shit about the NPC in Auckland. (and from the looks of it, many other parts of the country). Very sad but that's the reality of it.

Even if the huge and massive underdogs Auckland manage to pull off a win against the Canterbury Machine, the NZH will probably cover it in one article and sandwich it in between articles about Megan Markles belly and Kim Kardisionans tits.

With Kovana in attendance, crowd numbers was a big talking point at the last gathering of the cabal at Eden Park. We estimated about 10,000 were there for the North Harbour match, inclusive of everyone wandering around the concourse, all the security guards on duty, those residents who happened to be walking their dogs outside, Helen Clark having her coffee down the street in her house, and maybe the passengers on the passing trains within 50m of Eden.

This week, we believe 15,000 is in danger of being knocked off. Lock up your kittens.

The all black test will keep thousands home I reckon. It starts at 7pm and the NPC final is on at 4pm.
