Seriously? I saw Kolisi on one clip but assumed he's there as captain to support the players who were nominatedBBB wrote:Springboks are a “Team Of The Year” nominee when they lost 7 out of 14 tests in the relevant period from November 1st 2017-November 1st this year?
It will be very funny if they win it or Rassie takes Coach of the Year.Jensrsa wrote:Seriously? Biggest injustice since FdP lost to McCaw in 2009.Jensrsa wrote:Mr Mike wrote:It will be very funny if they win it or Rassie takes Coach of the Year.Jensrsa wrote:Seriously? No it won't be funny
Christ if NZ win it there will be a few threads on here deliberately ignoring the actual timeframe involved.BBB wrote:Yep.Jensrsa wrote:Seriously? Ireland,SA and NZ the nominees.
They also showed highlights from recent tests which don’t actually count toward this awards period.
Ireland probably deserves itTurbogoat wrote:Christ if NZ win it there will be a few threads on here deliberately ignoring the actual timeframe involved.BBB wrote:Yep.Jensrsa wrote:Seriously? Not that I'd actually think NZ deserves to win given the drop in form over the last year. SA did manage a win in NZ, but their form hasn't been that consistent either. Ireland to win it? I wouldn't argue too much with that.
I mean O’Mahony probably deserved the nod this year but Sexton was really good too.Jay Cee Gee wrote:Sexton to pick up Barrett's mantle from last year as "Undeserving winner of Player of the Year", I suspect.

I mean, he's ok but he's nothing amazing and if he's the winner then there's really no outstanding candidate and they should probably just not bother having the award, I reckon.Wendigo7 wrote:I mean O’Mahony probably deserved the nod this year but Sexton was really good too.Jay Cee Gee wrote:Sexton to pick up Barrett's mantle from last year as "Undeserving winner of Player of the Year", I suspect.

Sexton has had an excellent year. Book ended nicely with the DG to start it and beating NZ to finish it.Jay Cee Gee wrote:I mean, he's ok but he's nothing amazing and if he's the winner then there's really no outstanding candidate and they should probably just not bother having the award, I reckon.Wendigo7 wrote:I mean O’Mahony probably deserved the nod this year but Sexton was really good too.Jay Cee Gee wrote:Sexton to pick up Barrett's mantle from last year as "Undeserving winner of Player of the Year", I suspect.
This isn't trolling*, I thought much the same thing last year when Barrett won despite having a fairly average year as compared to when he actually deserved the award.
*a bit, but not entirely.
Nah, it revolves around their forward pack. He's a good 10 and a good defender but if he's WR Player of the Year it's been a shit year for individual standout players.CM11 wrote:Sexton has had an excellent year. He's not flashy and isn't perfect in any game but the reason Ireland have had the year they've had revolves around him. I know rugby is a team game but he is the common denominator throughout.

Put nearly any other player in there and Ireland don't win the GS, a series in Aus or beat NZ.
Point being that it would have to be an excellent player that replaces him. I didn't want to say no player could replace him because that would just open a stupid argument.Jay Cee Gee wrote:CM11 wrote:I think you underestimate just how much control and influence Sexton has in any given game.

Well, that equivocal praise has certainly done enough to convince me he's the outstanding player in World Rugby.....

So we're agreed, he's a journeyman at best.CM11 wrote:Point being that it would have to be an excellent player that replaces him.
