Elstadt a Bok bolter?

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is reportedly impressed with ex-Stormers lock Rynhardt Elstadt, who plays for Toulouse in France.

The 29-year-old Elstadt, who can also play across the back row, is in top form for log-leaders Toulouse in the Top 14, so much so that Erasmus is considering him for the Springboks.

According to Rapport, Erasmus has already initiated talks with the club and informed officials of his intention to call-up Elstadt for the upcoming Test season that starts in June.

Ja vok...but we know how Rassie operates now...Only surrounds himself with players he has worked with and has that same psychotic hatred of the Sharks...I mean...how many times did the Sharks destroy his ambitions to advance in Super rugby.

Farcical if true but also, sadly, believable.

Of all the overseas based Saffas that have caught my eye, Elstadt has appeared fairly average. We have plenty of depth in SA in his position.

Do you think Cobus Reinach has a chance of getting in the squad? He has been amazing this year.

I’d say he’s a near certainty at this stage. Our local scrum half stocks are pitiful. Rassie is in no position to ignore the best performing 9 in the GP this year.

De Klerk, Reinach and Papier/Jantjies would be the likely WC trio.

They've been playing Nyakane for years, so I'm sure it's not a race issue.

I would think that would be close to what it will be, although there has to be someone else that can take Louw's place...he is just not that effective in international rugby anymore.
I think Specman should be added to the outside backs list...he would be great guy to have as a sub if not a starter, to try change a game.

Probably not far off what Rassie will select. But I sure as hell hope that Flo will not be there. I haven't seen him play for Bath in ages, I presume he's injured?

Pretty much as expected although JLdP seems to be on the out with Rassie.

I know Reinach is playing good rugby in England but has he improved his kicking game? If not the Rassie probably won't pick him

So that's a no, then.

Him and Faf have both been nominated the Premiership's Player of the Year award. He's also the joint top try scorer, and he's won multiple man of the matches.

Considering how shallow our 9 depth is in SA, him and Faf simply have to go to the world cup.

Listen, as long as Flo doesn't go I'll make a concession for Reinach

Crocked Pollard emphasises Elton’s importance

And a very willing move to the No 12 jersey at stages this season merely strengthens the argument.

As Rassie Erasmus contemplates another injury to one of his key men after Handre Pollard returned home from the Bulls’ Super Rugby tour, the Springbok coach will now hope Elton Jantjies keeps his stellar fitness record intact.

The Lions flyhalf hasn’t been rested yet during the current campaign as national player protocol dictates.

However, Jantjies has insisted regularly that he’s a player that thrives on game-time and prides himself on not requiring much of a breather.

“I still feel good and strong,” he said.

“I’m working with one of the best conditioning trainers in world rugby, Cash van Rooyen. He’s very good at managing our load on the field and when to push it because we work in cycles. It’s not in my control. It’s all up to coach Swys (de Bruin) and coach Rassie. They will speak to one another if there is a request.”

Further emphasising Jantjies’ importance is his promising showings over the past few weeks when moved to inside centre.

The 28-year-old worked superbly in tandem with rookie Gianni Lombard in the victory over the Chiefs in Hamilton, while he’s also shifted regularly during matches.

With the Springbok midfield still dogged by inconsistency as well as the fitness of Jesse Kriel, Jantjies’ newfound versatility could become invaluable.

And, by all accounts, he’s happy to add strings to his bow.

“Not that I was getting complacent, but it did excite me,” said Jantjies.

“It’s nothing negative, only positive. I saw the game in a different way and had to work on different aspects of the game. It was challenging for me and it’s sometimes good to take you out of your comfort zone and find a new challenge.”

RWC is not a training exercise. And Jantjies's kicking is not up to scratch for a Bok scrummie

No Kolbe?

I think he'll be there.
Jantjies should go instead of Reinach as well and NO FLO, please.

RWC is not a training exercise. And Jantjies's kicking is not up to scratch for a Bok scrummie

Not exactly been a strength for old Cobus either...

Which is why I asked if he improved. Rassie isn't going to select a scrummie who hasn't at least got a reasonable kicking skill

Select project players for normal tests series is fine but not for your RWC squad

As the 3rd scrummie, Jantjies will be fine. Faf as the starter and Papier there as well, who did really well on the EOYT. If Faf or Papier get injured, then you can look at bringing someone like Reinach in.

Papier is struggling to make the Bulls side at the moment and wasn't invited to the last Bok camp. And you need a more "conservative' scrummie in the mix, having 3 or 4 "expressive" players will be a recipe for disaster

Funny thing, JM rated Andre Warner at the Bulls and now Pote has been backing him the last few games as well
