So theyve just been humiliated by a seam attack and after 9 overs they're bowling spin. What the hell is going on. Stokes skipped and hes probably England's quickest bowler.

Mea culpa. Mo snags 3, 61-4. Windies collapsing but England will still need to find 300ish runs from somewhere, minimum.

I can’t see England collapsing like that again. Windies will need well north of 400 to make this test safe.

1971 since they hit 400 + in a 4th innings, I think.

339 ahead - already beyond us I think.

That pitch didn't really look like one where 18 wickets should have fallen in one day - but I guess it must be playing some tricks - bounce a bit uneven.

So how's today going to go? I imagine the windies will add another 60 max, which leaves a 400 chase. And the only way you get to 400 is if the openers bore the tits of the bowlers, get to 100 without loss and effectively, have a reachable target. This is the ultimate opener test. Run rate doesn't matter much as theres time and plenty of up tempo batting to come. Whilst Root, Bairstow and Stokes can in theory go big, they wont against a fresh attack. And they need a start to build from. Theres a possibility the pitch flattens out (some have said previously this pitch gets better for batting) and actually the Windies lack of spin will work against them.

Personally I dont give them a hope, but in terms of the team for the future its now or never for the openers.

"Fresh attack" is somewhat relative though. Jimmy bowled the same number of first innings overs as the whole Windies team combined.

it probably is beyond them but it is day 3 and the pitch should be in good conditions still for batting.

There is some risk for the windies if they fall too quickly even if they have a lead of 400ish

The only risk for the windies is if they put their backs out from high fiving too much when we collapse again in the second innings.

This is all kinds of wrong. Pounding Stokes as a stock bowler. If something goes twang for him the balance of the side for the next test will be totally fooked.

Don’t get me wrong, I love an England batting collapse as long as the next man.

I think it will be beyond them as well but they can’t be as bad again. Surely?!

Modern sides clearly don’t have the temperament, technique and know how to compile an innings required to chase this down

You also wonder how many of them face decent pace on non pudding pitches. Fast medium bouncers and they shit their pants. Mo and Curran in particular.

The issue, which has been apparent for some time is that England's top order keeps being dug out of holes by the lower order. When the lower order fails to do this, we see the sort of horror show that they dished up yesterday.

It probably won't be as bad in the 2nd innings, but the truth is that England's top order isn't fit for purpose and so a collapse is more likely than not.

I don't think they can even use that excuse. The WINdies bowlers aren't very quick and they regularly face better/quicker bowlers in Domestic cricket. Curran is normally very good against the short stuff - Ali never has been.

Plenty of time and they've had some personal milestones to reach - as well as rubbing England's noses in it and demoralising/tiring them.

Still - we just have to bat for 6 and a half sessions on a pitch where we've failed to knock over their 7 and 8 in over two complete sessions - piece of cake.

I think we might get a bit of ahit stirring leaking out of the england camp after this. Jimmy had already questioned the preparations. There this bed bug carry on Aggers mentioned which sounds mental. A few players might want to get their excuses in. This has tour from hehell potential.

200 for Holder, nothing in the pitch, easy pickings for any batsman.

This pitch is very flat. Windies will have to work hard to get anything out of it.
