But in the week leading up to the game it's going to be a mess. People posting about 3-4 games in 1 fred.

With Saffer freds tending to go off topic, a joint fred is a bad idea especially if one expect non-Saffers to participate

In a RWC year, fans will want to keep up to date on players form and injuries. I'll keep my eye on all the teams, but mostly on the Sharks as I'm always informed that they have the best players.

Since the Sunwolves is comprised of 90% saffas, it's not really rooting for a foreign team against a saffa one if we pull for the sunwolves in this one is it?

Bosch injured, possible done during a trademark bone-crunching tackle:
The Sharks have suffered another blow ahead of their first Super Rugby outing this weekend after utility back Curwin Bosch was ruled out with a shoulder injury.

The Durban-based franchise are set to kick off their 2019 season against the Sunwolves in Singapore on Saturday at 12:55 (South African time).

The Robert du Preez senior-coached Sharks team is expected to leave Durban on Tuesday and Bosch will not be part of the 25-man travelling squad.

Du Preez confirmed the fullback/flyhalf is no longer available for selection.

“Curwin got a big shot on his shoulder so he is also out of the tour,” said Du Preez.

Before his injury, Bosch started both pre-season matches, against the Lions and Bulls, ahead of preferred pivot, Robert du Preez junior.

The coach said although Du Preez junior wasn’t selected in the previous two matches because they were managing him.
We were just managing Rob (Du Preez junior), you know he is coming back from playing overseas, but we were probably going to start with Curwin in Singapore, but he got injured now,” he said.

Bosch joins flanks Jean-Luc du Preez and Philip van der Walt, who are long-term injuries on the sideines Centre Marius Louw is also doubtful for the trip to Sunwolves.

The Cell C Sharks probably couldn’t have asked for a better preparation for a match in Singapore than the drawn warm-up match against the Blue Bulls played in what was reportedly uncomfortable Ballito humidity.

The Sharks and Vodacom Bulls drew 7-7 at a school ground in the KZN north coast town, with defences apparently dominating as the two teams completed the preparations for this coming weekend’s opening to the 2019 Vodacom Super Rugby season.

While the Bulls will host the DHL Stormers in Pretoria in the big match locally, the Sharks start out on the road by playing the Sunwolves in Singapore.

The second Sunwolves home venue has earned itself a notoriety for the humid conditions that tend to prevail there, with matches often resembling a sweat bath. This is exactly what the Ballito game turned out to be.

“The focus is now on the Sunwolves game in Singapore. It will be a tough game for us, so this was a perfect warm-up opportunity for us in terms of the humidity (we can anticipate in Singapore),” said Sharks coach Robert du Preez.

As he did after the loss to the Lions in Cape Town the week before, Du Preez lamented missed opportunities.“We did again let a few opportunities slip through our fingers in the second half,” said Du Preez after the game.

“If you get into the opposition 22, then you need to hold onto the ball to keep the pressure on.”

Indeed, and Du Preez will probably note with some consternation that he spent much of last season saying the same thing after games where the Sharks never made full use of their scoring chances. But there is always some rust in the pre-season, and the humidity would up the error-rate, or at least limit the avenues of attack, as it effectively turns a match into a wet weather game. Which in this instance is reflected by the end score.

The big thing for Du Preez is that his players all had at least one solid “hit out” in the pre-season.

“Now everyone has had a chance (to play). We brought in a bigger group of players this year, and it is good to see there is good depth.”

One positive for the Sharks this year is that there appear to be more young players coming through from the age-groups and Du Preez in turn has entrusted them with the responsibility from which experience grows during the build-up phase to Super Rugby.

Young players like Fezeo Mbatha, Kutha Mchunu, Phepsi Buthelezi, Grant Williams and lock JJ van der Mescht, who played in the Cape Town game and impressed when he did so, have all enjoyed game time at some point.

Although easy opposition, it's the first game of the season in the energy sapping heat and humidity of Singapore. I'm not expecting a vintage display here. If you have insomnia, just make a recording of this game. It will put you to sleep.

2018: Sharks 50– 22 Sunwolves
2017: Sunwolves 17 - 38 Sharks
2016: Sharks 40 - 29 Sunwolves

Yes, traditionally a very dull game.

You have to understand the context...handy is talking from his experience last year. And you need to remember that he is used to seeing scores in the 50 to 60 region.

The Sharks were involved in a very exciting 7 all draw in similar conditions already this year.

cool. what about the Reds game in April, as I saw Reds have an Iron Man shirt ?
normally I'm not a fan of lame tie-ins, but in fact a lot of thought has gone into these shirts and they actually look pretty good, and there is some decent merchandising potential there for all the clubs to bring in some cash. I need to get a new sharks shirt, so may well Wakanda to the max in April (I quite like the Official one too with the art deco town hall background thing)
