Marys got much needed win against Armagh, I heard they had 7 under 20's team how times have changed from grizzled old lads playing.

It's across the board. Very few older lads playing at that level anymore and more significantly, few of those older lads play down the club teams either.

It's a bit better down the country but not like the old days when we fielded 5 teams! It got to the stage where we were doing well to field 1 but back up to 2 comfortably. We used get lads from the army, guards and banks but that all dried up. A good youth set up is vital. Are senior teams are a mixture, lads in their teens up to lads in their mid thirties.

Our 4/5s are nearly exclusively older lads to be honest- 2/3s is younger

And then 1s is obviously a mix depending on ability etc

When I started playing Marys used to put out 9 senior teams and then still have lads who didn't get a game. As I have said before in my 1st season, played in a cup final for the 7ths where one of our wingers went on to play for Ireland 2 years later against the All Blacks. The first team would have had plenty of lads late 20's early 30's. Unless you were exceptional Mal O'Kelly/Sexton you did not get near the firsts.
A couple of years ago they were struggling to put out 5 Senior teams with no J3 team until one of older lads got a load of old lads out of retirement to play J3. I would say I played 7 years after anyone else from my year and that would have only been 1/2 players max.
It was interesting I was down the club last week and talking to one of blazers who was giving out that Ballymena played 6 interpro players against us (I am guessing academy lads), no real sympathy as I am sure we would have done the same if had those players available to us.

Yeah the lads were delighted.

I suspect they were caught on the hop that this is a decent side struggling for form rather than a bad one.

I didn't think ye had anything to worry about as the three below ye and Derry are all pretty weak. Tullamore beating Bangor was a bit of a surprise.

We beat Tullow in a high scoring game.

Bananaman, I heard that ye gave the students a good rattle but some handling errors cost you badly.

I am sick over it..... one that got away.

Lost 27-22 - got the double bonus. They had Michael Milne rolled out and both our props (your boy and our sub) sowed into him. But got the points.

Should have won..... it is coming. Blackrock next week. Lot more poisitive - like we are missing 4 lads from our first choice pack too

Leinster Academy Manager was there too!

PD was borderline unplayable in the second half along with our winger who is a club lad.

You're not getting him back.

Huge loss really for them - mad to see Navan so dominant.

Not so much that as losing a few players, especially our Kiwi outhalf, and not replacing them. We have a very good pack but are down to the bare bones in the backs, something that was noticeable even last season. I remember watching us beat Thomond by 30 points in the final game last season to go up and thinking that if we had a couple of half decent wingers we’d have won by 60.

As Liathroidi said above provincial clubs generally replenished their playing stocks through bankers and army guys coming into town, but that doesn’t happen nowadays.

PD is our 13..lad from Longford...lovely player...

Milne is a monster..got their first try when 5m out. But we got after him in the scrum.. big time. Bit of the Tony Buckleys about him in scrum. Albeit we have a big scrum

Ryan is a nice player. Got a try but our lad at 13 got 1 and set up two and was the better.

O Sullivan played well.. fast and strong... really quick... best of the 3 for me

Peter Smith was there.. looking at one of our locks too.. lad who stsrte for our 1s.

I have their team if you want it

I saw their team alright thanks.

Yeah Milne has moved back over to TH since finishing with the A's. Wonder if he is just taking time to re-adapt after focusing on 1 since he started in with Leinster.

Good to hear on O'Sullivan, first game back after injury afaik.

O'Sullivan is very good in the air too.

Yeah Milne wasnt great at all at tight head, heard he played there last week too when they got humped by Trinity and he got roasted in scrum

Our two looseheads just got into him and he was either collapsing or hinging.

As I said, he is Tony Buckley like in size - so if he could tighten up on scrum.

You sure did - chatting with LG in the Junior Rugby thread on it.

Dominated them to be honest - the only team we havent had dominance in the scrum over is Clontarf this season - and their pack is ridiculous.

Didn't get the bonus - weather was muck though - we were a pass or two away from cutting them apart.

Rock arent up to much though.

We have been improving week on week to be fair - should have beaten UCD, unlucky not to get something from Terenure game and now a win.

So happy out... it is a great experience for the lads/ club - lots of u19s in the team. We are well past moral victories ... about development and pushing on.

Heard Tarf stacked their team into next year with no AIL - Hawkshaw and Adamson either playing or on the bench. Clontarf will win the All Ireland

Getting a first hand view of alot of the future of leinster/Irish rugby at the moment!!

JP Fanagan ((U20) Premier 1 results:

@mubarnhallrfc 24-7 @BCRFC
@LansdowneFC 13-12 @UCDRugby
@ClontarfRugby 33-21 @DUFCRUGBY
@terenurerugby 19-25 @OldBelvedereRFC

Tarf team

1 - Daragh Bolger
2- Killian Hickey
3- Charlie Ward(u19)
4 - Fionn Gilbert(u19)
5- Brian Deeney(u19)
6- Grellan Murray
7- Adam Fleming
8- Ruadhan Byron
9- Mark O'Sullivan
10- Conor Kelly
11 - Sam Barry
12 - Frankie O'Dea
13- Darragh Kelly
14- Jordan Wilkes
15- Tadhg Bird

16- Declan Adamson
17- Jonathan Bell
18 - Zach Sattar
19 - Jacob Maguire
20 - Greg Petherbridge
21- David Hawkshaw
22- Seni Reilly Ashiru
Thats a frankly insane team - and they have Hugo Lennox too not in that lineup

Bolger is u20.5s again next season too - but he hasnt kicked on at all.
Heard Bolger was good at the weekend. But yeah he hasn't.
Neither has Aungier either really... both of those were wrecking balls when I coached against them coming up.
