Incredible if it’s only 2. They are all at it. I know lads getting offered to move so the regs are not observed at all.

Apologies in advance if wrong thread. Any heads-up/advice/opinion re playing at Old Wesley would be appreciated*. Looking for decent level of social rugby. Right - end of genuine query. . .

Diego is Wesley man.

Fantastic set up and junior section was best in country (probably) last year.

We'll be a good home for you Timster

As mentioned our junior section is flying at the moment both in terms of on field results and the general vibe around the club. It looks like we'll be putting out a 6ths next year so there's sure to be a team for you whatever your level. There's lads from all sorts of different backgrounds across the club too these days so the social side is pretty good.

And we're getting a shiny new pitch over the summer too :smug:

If he's eyeing up Ballycorus he'd better be under 12 or he's not getting a game.

Yeah there's the very odd game out there still but the vast majority are in the Brook.

Alas not for me - my rugby days are, ahem, very last century. But appreciate the response (and from others on the thread). All sounds very positive.

seems an odd move.

rumoured moves:

Conall Doherty and Paul Kiernan signed to Lansdowne from UCD.
Jack Stafford - Shannon to Garryowen
Billy Scannell to UCC

Geoff Moylan in (again)

I am not sure Billy Scannell will make it, I coach with a lad from the Cookies and he said Scannell is pure windy.

Not surprised on Stafford, Cronin be with Munster more given world cup.

Shannon have Aran Hehir, Keith Kavanagh anyway, nevermind Casey (who should be in with Munster)

Yeah I don't see it with Billy S, move back to UCC would suggest no academy place to me.

Any word on what's happening with Leinster academy? Surely the offers would be out by now.

Nucifora was "reviewing" all the academies..

Believe it will look something like this, no one joining straight from school, expect players to be added after celtic cup like Hawkshaw did this season:

Tom Clarkson(Prop/Blackrock/DUFC)(U19)
John McKee(Hooker/Campbell/Old Belvedere)(U19)
Charlie Ryan(Lock/Blackrock/UCD)(U20)
Martin Moloney(Backrow/Athy RFC/Old Belvedere)(U20)
Liam Turner(Centre-Wing/Blackrock/DUFC)(U20)

Heard conflicting info on Cormac Foley.

Could see Ronan Watters and a few other under-20's be involved in preseason and given another look.

good class, Hodnett being the obvious headliner.

Kelly, O'Connor and Ahern are three huge locks.

Makes sense in a way given Sutton - but 3rd club in 3 years.

Didn't really make an impact at Marys or Nure.

Certainly not the level Clarkson has.

I expected him to join tarf from school.

Clarkson will bypass him quickly just a matter of when given clarkson will be playing 20s again next season.

Blackrock College RFC on twitter saying Aaron O'Sullivan is joining them from UCD, which would be a very odd move, unless he is leaving the academy or focusing on 7's..

That's mental... he really isn't all that, we played against him twice, and I mean in a Leinster academy sense. But was goosed with injuries wasn't he for most the season.

Mad he is at a 2B team instead of a Division 1??

I know Bryan Mollen and Mark Roche were Blackrock last year but only played the play off games. But still bizzare.

I thought you had to be 1A or 1B to be in the academy?

Mark Roche was Lansdowne for years, but Blackrock in school. Maybe he just wanted to play with his school mates, but the fact that he's with the 7s program a lot meant that there was ne real difference to him. Wasn't going to be playing much AIL anyway.
He's also not academy, so that bit doesn't matter.

Mark Roche has been a Blackrock AIL player last two seasons, into his 3rd - might have only played a handful of games (defo played their relegation play off ones this season). But got the Blackrock 20s gig and Lansdowne were like.. hold on can't have it both ways

So did I - feck sake. We are in 2A, we would take an academy player. Nevermind the likes of Wesley, Naas, Navan, Marys in 1B. Doesn't make sense other than being close to where he is living but you would expect a Leinster Academy lad to be able to play Div 1A.

I don't know if it was ever official, or whether the Branch just leaned on players to play 1A. I recall when Trinity were 1B they had Max McFarland in the 20s. He moved to 'Tarf (I think) for a couple of years. I may be mis-remembering completely, but I think there was some pressure to be playing at as high a level as possible.

Well like I don't see how it makes sense to have a lad in the 4th division, surely if he plays at all you want him at the best level.

Doesn't make sense unless he is only doing 7s

It was an issue for a while when we were 2A. We weren't getting the best players out of the schools each year. Best university, so plenty came on that basis, but certainly not the best standard of rugby, so lads who only cared about rugby wouldn't end up in Trinity.

That's changed a lot in the last few years, obviously.

Apparently leinster have encouraged/maneuvered him there as he is moving off campus and focusing on 7's next season.. doubt he will be playing much if any AIL next season.

Missed most of the season with injury but highly thought of.. with 20s at the minute so interested to see him get a chanve

Max did play in tarf (and quite well). He went to the Scottish 7 team afterwards.

Great little winger

I remember that he was Scottish qualified. Didn't know he played 7s for them. Never knew the guy myself.
