Kirchner off on loan. He hasn't figured in a match day squad, which is a testament to the fact that we're actually not badly off for back 3 players, and that Kirchner is now bad enough for Jackman to notice, relegate him to the A team, then let him out on loan. How long is his contract - anyone know?
Ah, can answer my own question - just found this
Kirchner...a year to run on his Dragons deal.

Good luck to him. If he does well, that's great (partly because they might make it permanent). I wish him no ill at all. I think he tries hard, but he's been pants for us, and I'd sooner free up some cash on the wage bill so we can sign a better defence coach.
Yeah my post was a knock on the coach, not him. Not as if he's a Sweeney type player.

I don't know if I want to watch the Leinster game or not on the weekend. I probably will end up watching it but it's like watching your sister on The Voice when you know they can't sing.

Thank you, Dragons and more specifically Jackman

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rug ... t-15140523

...... forcing a scrum penalty out of Tadhg Furlong on a rugby pitch is no mean feat. Step forward, then, Phil Price.

Last season, the former Bridgend RFC and Bedwas RFC player couldn’t get a start with the Dragons, dropping to arguably fifth-choice loosehead at the region before jumping at the chance to head west to the Scarlets. By some calculations he might even have been sixth choice. Later, Price bemoaned his lack of opportunities at Rodney Parade in 2017-18.

But all that was forgotten last weekend when he produced a memorable effort off the bench against Leinster. When the 29-year-old arrived on the pitch for the Scarlets against Leinster, the all-Ireland front row of Cian Healy, Sean Cronin and Furlong were waiting for him, possibly with napkins tucked under their chins and knives and forks at the ready.

Price opposed him for only 16 minutes but in that time there were five scrums and the Lions Test starter didn’t get any change out of the Welshman. The two set-pieces that were most talked about saw the first deemed inconclusive by the referee, despite Furlong appearing to hit the ground. “His knees again!” shouted Scarlets openside James Davies. When the set-piece was reset, Furlong switched his bind from shirt to arm but hit the deck and in the referee’s eyes took Price with him. “No. 3 pulled it down,” Scottish official Mike Adamson ruled.

Decent player, good servant to the Dragons....his treatment last year was strange and disappointing. Good luck to him. Why we saw fit to give Hobbs, Garrett and Davies chances above him I don't really know, but Jackman seemed to take against him from the off.

So it's the weekend again and the regions are back in action.

Munster v Ospreys

When: Friday @ 19:35
Where: Irish Independent Park
Result last season: 36-10
Ospreys Team wrote:James Hook; Tom Williams, Joe Thomas, Cory Allen, Luke Morgan; Sam Davies, Tom Habberfield; Rhodri Jones, Scott Baldwin, Tom Botha, Giorgi Nemsadze, Adam Beard, Olly Cracknell (capt), Morgan Morris, Sam Cross.

Replacements: Ifan Phillips, Nicky Smith, Alex Jeffries, James Ratti, Guido Volpi, Matthew Aubrey, Tiaan Thomas-Wheeler, Hanno Dirksen.
Munster Team wrote:Mike Haley; Andrew Conway, Sammy Arnold, Dan Goggin, Darren Sweetnam; Joey Carbery, Duncan Williams; James Cronin, Rhys Marshall, Stephen Archer; Tadhg Beirne, Darren O’Shea; Peter O’Mahony (C), Chris Cloete, Arno Botha.

Replacements: Mike Sherry, Dave Kilcoyne, John Ryan, Jean Kleyn, Tommy O’Donnell, James Hart, Ian Keatley, Jaco Taute.
I think Munster are more likely to win and looking at that Ospreys team x(

Scarlets v Benetton

When: Saturday @ 17:15
Where: Parc Y Scarlets
Result last season: 20-8

Got to fancy Scarlets for this one. Benetton have been coming on nicly but the Scarlets are a crack outfit and have the backs to score the points and the forwards to stop Benetton domination.

Leinster v Dragons

When: Saturday @ 17:15
Where: Royal Dublin
Result last season: 54-10

Well this is going to be a blood bath. It would be a minor miricle if the Dragons could come away from this with a bonus point but I doubt that Peinster will be in a giving mood. They have too much up front and far too much behind and with a quite porus Dragons defence a repeat of last season is, unfortunatly on the cards.

Zebra v Blues

When: Saturday @ 19:35
Where: Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi
Result last season: 7-10

Now this is the game the Blues are finally going to win. No more last minute defeat, they'll be comfortable before the eighty minutes comes near.

The one thing I thought regarding the Blues start to the season is that they could have probably only reasonably expected 4/5 points by this time of the season, so being on 3, although not great, is not the end of the world.

I don't read into anything too much until 6-7 games in.

Dragons team to face Leinster;
Dragons (v Leinster Rugby): Jordan Williams, Dafydd Howells, Adam Warren, Jack Dixon, Hallam Amos, Josh Lewis, Rhodri Williams; Brok Harris, Elliot Dee, Lloyd Fairbrother, Matthew Screech, Cory Hill (c), Aaron Wainwright, Nic Cudd, Ross Moriarty

Replacements: Richard Hibbard, Ryan Bevington, Leon Brown, Brandon Nansen, Ollie Griffiths, Tavis Knoyle, Arwel Robson, Jarryd Sage
Cudd back for Griffiths surprises me a little, but perhaps after all his injuries Jackman is being pragmatic and trying to make sure he doesn't break him in a game that no one expects us to get anything out of. Sage on the bench - he's been pretty anonymous since he was signed so highlights how ropey we are for midfield cover.

Just hope we can get some ball to the back 3 - they are fun to watch.

Luck is what you need when you're tossing a coin, what we need is something more akin to a space-time anomaly - unexpected, inexplicable and defying the existing laws of physics.

Leinster: Rob Kearney; Jordan Larmour, Garry Ringrose, Robbie Henshaw, Dave Kearney; Johnny Sexton (capt), Jamison Gibson-Park; Ed Byrne, Seán Cronin, Andrew Porter, Scott Fardy, James Ryan, Max Deegan, Josh van der Flier, Jack Conan

Replacements: Bryan Byrne, Peter Dooley, Tadhg Furlong, Ross Molony, Caelan Doris, Hugh O'Sullivan, Noel Reid, Joe Tomane.
I think we have the weakness we needed...it seems Leinster are so confident they've decided to play cheeky mock the week regular Ed Byrne at loosehead. Should mean parity at scrumtime.

That looks a bloody strong Leinster team...

Yeah, that was alright wasn’t it. Not as entertaining as Ebbw last week but still good, earthy, fun. Warms the cockles of my heart to see 23stone reserve tight heads dump tackling wingers who have the temerity to be 5 yards near a ruck.

I fúcking laughed at that, what made him think that was a good idea? must have had all the blood drain from his brain when he ran those five yards.

Point of order. The Swans are the FC team, the all whites (or as we call them in Llanelli, the all shites) are the rugby version.

Zico wrote:What's the most Northerly (actually Welsh) region?

All 4 regions re in the south alongside each other following the M4 motorway

West to East
SCARLETS - OSPREYS - BLUES - DRAGONS

Scarlets used to have the north but as this is football country for the large part, it got separated into its own region called RGC which plays in the semi pro league below the Pro14.

But to answer your question, nobody is more northerly.

I'll give you most of the bench.
But for the vast majority of them I think you've fallen for Sam Davies syndrome again i.e there's none better so they must be good but they need time to get good...
Tandy has left such a shit in that that team I think it'll take at least a good 5-6 years to right it again, if ever....
The single worst coaching appointment and extension I've ever seen, the Ospreys board ineptitude has really f**ked that team over

Blues lose in the last minute for the 3rd game on the trot. That's got to be a structural issue. Zebre deserved their win. Cardiff scored 21 points in the first 10 minutes, then switched off for 70 minutes. Anscombe once again proved that he can only play on way. Had no ability to try and play some percentage rugby. It was shit or bust breaks constantly, typified by him putting in an abysmal attempt at a chip and catch in the middle of the second half.

After being 21 up, the Blues should have been pinging the corners and playing territory rugby. The first thing the New Barry John did when he came on was do exactly that. Being shit when intbr opposition 22 for the rest of the match wasn't a good look either...but how many times did Cardiff actually make it in the after their initial burst? They gave up momentum, and didn't look to have much of a plan other than keep on playing the ball from anywhere.
