..well not him personally, but his restaurant chain is in a spot of bother.

Cant say I have ever eaten at one, still, not cool for the 1000+ people working there.

https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/may/21/jamie-oliver-jobs-administrators-restaurants-jamies-italian

Quote:
Jamie Oliver’s restaurant empire is calling in administrators, putting more than 1,000 jobs at risk.

The company, which includes 23 Jamie’s Italian outlets, plus the Fifteen and Barbecoa restaurants in London and Jamie’s Diner at Gatwick airport, said KPMG would be appointed as administrator.

He put 12.5 of his own money into the chains last year.

It annoys Gordon Ramsey no end that Jamie Oliver makes far more money telling people how to cook a meal using just one saucepan than he makes telling people to fudge off.

That mid range casual dining sector was utterly saturated and was always heading towards a readjustment. Not quite sure how the likes of Byron and GBK could think they could carry on charging what they did for a fecking burger.

Even Prezzo in trouble, they’ve closed lots of prime sites.

Rent, rate and minimum wage kicking in.

There's an awful lot of competition in that market. Plus you get a high staff turnover.

GBK is actually almost worth it. Their burgers are brillinat. Byron was a crap rip-off, frozen McDonalds shite presented as gormet cooking and that is before you go into the cheap dodgy eastern European Labour. I love me an Honest Burger or a chicken Burger from a small company called 'White Men Can't Jerk'.

I also feel sorry for the folks that will lose their jobs, but this is just karma for Jamie adding 'age' onto the end of everything, like 'herbage'

Now he's lost some coinage.

Boo-hooage.

The biggest problem for business is rents. Since the Torys frozen council tax but made cuts to councils who then made-up the short fall on business rents. This also made it harder for new business start-ups which is aiding to the high street dying and hence well backed business brands like Sainburys etc appearing in every corner.

The Government should push massively to cut local business rents. It's strangling the start-up economy.

Um Martha Stewart - US$1 bn?

She's not a chef.

As much as a chef as Delia Smith in fairness.

Indeed. But Delia is lovely. I've said I was born in Norwich. Her strange speech from the pitch is a bit of a blot, but her heart's in the right place.

We are off to Norfolk in August. A big family do which is much looked forward to. I say that as we shall be eating at Morston Hall, which is her favourite restaurant. Tracy & Galton Blackiston are great.
