Just been reading this story on Ashley Massaro, who sadly committed suicide a few days ago. This is her affadavit when she sued WWE which includes her being encouraged by McMahon not to report that she was drugged and raped by US military staff while on tour in Kuwait.

Can't say anything bad about people in the US military that's worse than catholic's being critical about the pope.

Vince is a scumbag - but has a monopoly on wrestling so wrestlers have to be nice to him.

Basically ignored the flagrant steroid abuse (might of even encouraged it) despite the numerous early deaths of his past and present wrestlers.

He's the last of the true old time wrestling promoters, who were all scumbags when it came to it. However, back in the day if you didn't like the scumbag you were working for and were a good enough worker or a good draw, you could move territories to work for a another scumbag who would offer you better terms.

He was just willing to take on the system to become the biggest scumbag of all.

The rest of his family are no better, his wife worked for Trump, and as for his son-in-law...

the Montreal Screwjob

Bret was my hero!

But yes - I bet none of those old timey guys gave a fudge about the talent unless they were making them money.

Bischoff and Heyman don't come across any better

If it wasn't for the Montreal screwjob, the attitude era never would have happened which was the greatest era in WWE/WWF

I have heard that - without it Stone Cold doesn't win KOTR and we never see the Austen 3:16 speech...or something along those lines?

It turned Vince into a bad guy - and he was a great bad guy!

not sure though...wrestling was blessed with a group of incredibly talented and charismatic talkers and wrestlers that all seem to hit at the same time - Stone Cold, the Rock, Mankind, HBK, Kurt Angle, Jericho

plus the guys will to put their bodies on the line Christian and Edge, the Hardy Boys etc

Vince isn't just some scummy promoter anymore, he's the CEO of a publicly listed company worth $6B, he really shouldn't be able to brush stuff like this under the carpet

a few weeks back, John Oliver discussed McMahon, he did a lot of shitty things, find that episode, it will really make you want to hate him..lets just say he had no plans for older wrestlers so some had to come back cause they were broke...one of those was Roddy Roddy piper who actually said he doesn't care about his insurance when he can collect after teh age of 60 cause he was not likely to live that long .....and he didn't :(

Seems to have been around a while as non kayfabe - either way it’s an amusing story, I suspect most of the wrestlers shag around loads

Quite a lot of it was crap, people only remember the good stuff.

Jim Cornette talked about it on his podcast recently, he was on the booking committee at the time (or rather the pitch an idea to Vince to approve committee). He put the seed of screwing Hart to get the belt off him into McMahon's mind, he'd seen it done several times when he was working the territories. He didn't come up with the idea and regrets what happened afterwards for the total destruction of kayfabe in the shift to sports entertainment away from wrasslin'.

Rude was one of the legit tough guys in the business apparently - top five anyways.
Meng / Haku always gets talked about as being easily the toughest real life person out there, even Andre was scared of him

Watched a documentary on the life of Andre the Giant recently. Sad and tragic in the end but extremely interesting getting a behind the scenes look at the wrestling game.

That if things weren't fake he could have beaten up most of the other wrestlers.

Dave Meltzer says it's a weird one, everyone he has spoken to lots of insiders and he believes the story as does everyone, but no one has definitive witness of it. It is said that Vince always left the door open for return no matter how badly the bridge was burned for anyone, except the Macho Man. The one exception.

Right. Interesting. Watching the Andre the Giant doco he was apparently the toughest, strongest bastard and there were a couple of wrestlers he hated and would really beat up on in their matches. Can't remember the others but one was Macho Man Randy Savage who was shit scared of Andre.
