Rudi Oppenheimer's testimony
Posted: Tue May 28, 2019 2:52 pm
Rudi was an old friend of my father and one of the nicest men I ever met. He also happened to be a Belsen survivor. He never talked about it much (at least to us) until towards the end of his life, when my dad persuaded him to give a talk to some schools where he was a governor.
Alas, he passed away on the 13th of this month, which made me dig out a video recording of the speech. I hadn't spoken to him for over a year, but in the last chat I had with him, he explained why he'd finally done it, referencing the difficult refugee situation we face and the rise of nationalism.
Anyway, if anyone cares, there's a link below. It's long (70 mins) and harrowing, but worth listening to imvho.
Vale Rudi
