He needs to be in tip-top form so he can spend 50 minute inspecting rucks.

Well someone needs to tell the players where the ball is in the ruck, they do not seem to be able to find it by themselves anyway. :D :smug:

I will be happy if Rassie can cut a few of our weaker players. Mapimpi for example.

I don't have an issue with Kolisi being in the team, it's not like any of the other loose forwards constantly outplay him in every match.
Everyone going on about Coetzee, but nobody knows how he will go if he plays. Just look at Elstadt, had a great European season, but did not impress at all in the Bok game.I would have loved for Stander to get a few minutes of the bench, he looked very good in Super Rugby, so even if not a starter, he might have been a good impact player. Not to be though.

Mapimpi, has not had any outstanding play in the 2 games yet, so to replace him at this point in time might not be a big loss, even Nkosi looked very average in the first game, apart from the one run down the open touch line that lead to the try. He just seems slow, did he have any big injuries this year,
Even though I would have liked to have given Specman some minutes, i would not have minded seeing Leyds get a chance as well.

Elstadt’s performance has nothing to do with Coetzee. Coetzee has always been a superior player and, from what I’ve seen of him this season, he’s regained his old form.
Of course we don’t know for sure how he will go but he more than deserves the opportunity, that Elstadt was given, to put his case forward.

Rassie has managed to exclude Coetzee and Frans to a large extent...

I'm not against either starting. As they both deserves a chance. Specially Steyn who should be a shoe-in considering the form of the other 12's. Yes Elstadt did get his chance based on his form in France this season and he did not take it so rightly should not be in the squad anymore. Hopefully Coetzee will get a chance to show what he can do for us. For me he should definitely be in the Squad at least.

Al I was saying that it is no foregone conclusion that he will be better than anyone else as many seem to claim. But he needs his chance to show it.
Unfortunately for him, the best he might get is a bench spot as I think Kolisi, PsdT and Vermeulen will be the first choices if all are fit.

Agreed. He’s playing for a bench role if everyone is fit. That he covers all 3 loosie spots means he has a strong case.

t.
In his 20 minutes Coetzee made a tackle break, and a dominant tackle , carried 4 times for 26 metres and made 3 tackles...........
Rynhardt gave 2 penalties away , missed 3 tackles and made 4 carries for 19 metres

Coetzee deserved another chance....my gut is he will outshine PSDT on ACTUAL PERFORMANCE AND RESULTS if Rassie gives him a SHOT

Someone agrees with me on the theory that the 4 sides of the RC are working hard on their defense and hide what they are developing in attack, for the RWC.
Except in SA v AUS the tries will not exceed 3 per game (last saturday each side scored a single try).

Against us, they brought a very experimental team and only scored two tries. They didn't seem to have a lot of ideas about how to break our defense, even though most of the absences (Crusaders players) play in the forwards pack and not between the backs.
Watching that first game it seemed that the motto, which Hansen had imposed on them, was to give us the ball and show that they could defend themselves.

Rob Howing must read PR
Still, there is arguably time left yet for present Bok coach Rassie Erasmus to experiment a little further with combinations before RWC 2019 kicks off in late September, and one that comes to mind is the possibility of trying out Etzebeth and Snyman – the latter in a No 5, middle-of-lineout jumping capacity – for the first time together.

While Snyman has played virtually all of his Bok rugby (13 Tests, including five starts) thus far as a “four” factor, he is an appealingly adaptable athlete often familiar with the other lock berth -- and its generally looser, more mobile requirements – through alliance with Jason Jenkins for the Bulls in Super Rugby.

In that landscape, heavyweight Jenkins was invariably the No 4 presence, with Snyman perfectly at ease as the five.

While this should not in any way suggest a downgrading of the short- to medium-term Test prospects of either Mostert or De Jager, both so valuable in their own ways, wouldn’t it be worth Erasmus having a look, if he believes he can yet facilitate that luxury ahead of the World Cup, at Etzebeth-Snyman in tandem?

Such a combination would put plenty of fear into the rival hooker throwing in at lineout time … while also arguably pairing the two major “meanies”, if you like, of the four main Bok locks.

Isn’t it worth a little flutter?

I doubt they would throw the RC for the RWC

From an argie perspective, the most important thing about this game in Salta is that we don't get injured (it would be great if neither side had them).
Everything else is assimilable.

These are the 30 players who will travel to Salta on Sunday to prepare for the final match of the Rugby Championship 2019.

Image

- Benjamin Urdapilleta was discharged and trained alongside his teammates.
- Agustín Creevy, Julián Montoya and Matías Orlando worked differently with the physiotherapist. The outside centre will have a rest and will not travel to Salta.
- Gonzalo Bertranou should be returning from South Africa (Jaguares XV) and will replace Felipe Ezcurra.

I heard the starting XV might be:

1) Enrique Pieretto
2) Santiago Socino
3) Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro
4) Guido Petti
5) Marcos Kremmer
6) Juan Manuel Legizamon
7) Pablo Matera
8) Javier Ortega Desio
9) Tomas Cubelli
10) Benjamin Urdapilleta
11) Ramiro Moyano
12) Jeronimo de la Fuente
13) Matias Moroni
14) Santiago Cordero
15) Emiliano Boffelli

The bench is truly my complete speculation, but probably:
16) Mayco Vivas
17) Julian Montoya
18) Santiago Medrano
19) Matias Alemanno
20) Tomas Lezana or Facundo Isa
21) Gonzalo Bertranou
22) Nicolas Sanchez
23) Joaquin Tuculet or Lucas Mensa (first cap?)

A couple of interesting things:

- First game as a starter this year for Enrique Pieretto.
- First game as a starter and first cap for Santiago Socino as a Puma.
- Marcos Kremer moves to lock as a starter.
- First game as a Puma for Benjamin Urdapilleta since 2013! I am excited to see what he has in the tank.
- First game for Gonzalo Bertranou, back as a Puma since his injury this year.
- A potential first game for Lucas Mensa coming from the bench (pure speculation).

There may be too much risk bleeding so many players with first caps, but you have to test the players you have under realistic conditions in a test match if you are a coach and need to define the final 31 players that will make the RWC squad. It is now or never. I just hope for no injuries to either team and a good game.

DURBAN – Argentina are going to be formidable opponents for the Springboks when they clash in Salta on Saturday night.

Here are five players the Boks will have to keep a close eye on:

Nicolas Sanchez

The points machine is one of just four overseas-based players in the Pumas’ squad, with the majority of players being drawn from the Jaguares’ Super Rugby team.

The 30-year-old did play for the Jaguares between 2016 and 2018 before this year joining Stade Francais in Paris. Sanchez has a sharp boot and the Boks will know that they have to very careful with their discipline.

Sanchez has scored 11 tries, 99 conversions, 140 penalties and 12 drop goals for 709 points in international rugby.

Agustin Creevy

The veteran hooker did not travel to Australia for the Rugby Championship match played on the same day that the Boks drew with the All Blacks because of injury, but he will be fit to play the Bok this weeks.

Creevy is now 34 and massively experienced. He has 81 caps for the Pumas and has a reputation for being one of rugby’s wiliest operators. He is a niggly hooker that gets under the skin of the opposition and always has a word to whisper to the referee.

Emiliano Boffelli

The 24-year-old fullback is a seriously slippery customer. He is lean, keen and electrifying on the counter attack.

Boffelli bamboozeld defences in Super Rugby when he launched attacks from deep with his hot stepping and sheer pace. The Boks will have to cut down Boffelli’s time and space on the ball to negate this serious attacking weapon.

Pablo Matera

The flank is openly recognised as one of the best players in the world.

The 26-year-old boasts all the attributes of a classic opensider.

He is quick to the ball, skilful in his offloads, savage in defence and a meticulous winner of ball at the breakdown. Matera is coming off a brilliant Super Rugby campaign in which he was a regular winner of the Man of the Match award for the Jaguares. In one sublime performance alone, he almost single-handedly defeated the Sharks at Jonsson Kings Park.

Joaquin Tuculet

The versatile Tuculet has been an elusive customer for the Pumas since 2012, mounting attacks from fullback, centre or the wing.

He is equally happy in all of those positions and has amassed 51 caps for his country. Prior to settling down with the Jaguares in 2016, he played for the Sale Sharks, Cardiff Blues, Grenoble in France and Bordeaux.

Tuculet is an experienced finisher that will create havoc if the Boks do not look after him.

The only change to the Bokke will be the two props from the bench will start. Kitshoff & Malherbe will move to the bench.

Cant afford to play Coetzee and Reinach in this important test. They can start from the bench with their captain Kolisi next week.
