Peart was seen as one of the industry’s most technically proficient rock drummers. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer hall of fame in 1983, making him the youngest ever honouree. The former Police drummer Stewart Copeland called him “the most air-drummed-to drummer of all time”.

Godammit. Fantastic drummer. 67 is far too young, he should have had decades of paradiddling eft.

Not a massive Rush fan but seeing him behind his behemoth of a drum kit was something else.

Rush were never my thing. Can’t abide Lee’s vocals or the wanky lyrics of Peart. But man could Peart play. I know he’d quit touring recently. Sadly didn’t get to enjoy his retirement.

Shit shit shit. Part of the soundtrack of my adolescence. Went off Rush after Signals, but got back into them after Vapor Trails. Despite some of the ropey prog rock stuff in the early days, Peart’s drumming and percussion raised the band from the rest of the herd.

Peart was the standout drummer of his era for me. Even eclipsing the likes of Moon, Bonham, Baker & Bruford from the previous era IMHO. Always humble and eager to improve, even revising his technique after studying under Freddie Gruber in the mid 90’s.

One of my inspirations to take up drumming; he was an incredible precisionist (for some too much) and wrote superb lyrics. Very sad news.

Had to be a contender for fastest hands in drumming

Saw Rush in 1978 great show and what fantastic drummer, top three in the world in my opinion, hope he's with his young son who passed a few years back.

Just amazing. Right up there with the best. RIP.

Nice selection. I love Rush. Saw them many times and Neil wrote some wonderful words. His family tragedies in the late 1990’s almost finished him but his book Ghost Rider - Travels in the Healing Road is inspiring. And in that sprit, the following playlist came to me today and reveal much about a man who would have been first on my dinner guest list (with Billy Connolly). 1) The Garden (Rush’s final track), 2) Afterimage 3) Sweet Miracle 4) Time Stand Still 5) Limelight 6) Closer to the Heart. Beautiful and Poignant. Enjoy y’all. Farewell to Kings indeed.

I've just listened to their 'Essential' tracks mowing the lawns. Can't say I've swayed any closer to enjoying their music. The noise did aid me in masking the neighbours corgis attacking a passerby walking her smaller dog. I was completely oblivious to the seriousness until I saw 2 neighbours on either side booking it across the road to rip the dogs apart.
