Been doing a lot of walking this month and I stumbled upon the Suspense series of plays first broadcast in the 1940s. I think they were produced for American troops away in Europe. They are superb. Each story lasts 30 minutes and is a self contained story. The performers are a who's who of Hollywood greats and what radio does is that it really isolates an actor's skill and craft. It also allows leading men on film to play roles they would never get in a movie role.

The real highlight is discovering just how good an actor James Stewart was, he's phenomenal, a real treat to listen to him. Others include Orson Wells, Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster, James Cagney, Lana Turner, Bette Davis, Kirk Douglas, Rita Hayworth and on and on.

If you get a chance on a commute, have a listen.
