If the marriage/divorce was nasty. I was asked by a friend to accompany him to his ex mother in-law's funeral. Considering all the shit that happened (court cases, fist fights with her family, threats etc) I reckon he shouldn't go but he has two kids with ex wife.

If my ex croaked I wouldn't go unless specifically asked by my kids - the In Laws no fecking chance!!

It’s more difficult when the breadwinner is the village idiot ;)

Why does he want to go into such a hostile environment? For the kids? Or the mother in law the only inlaw he got on with? Just seems mystifying.

For the kids I guess. The grandma is important to the kids and imo he doesn't want let them down. The kids live with mother majority of the time. They're about 8-11yrs old.

So surely he has to speak to the kid's mother and explain that they have requested this, and he feels he should go for their benefit?
If she says'no' it's up to her to explain to the kids why he's not there...

No.

Or Yes, but splash out on an outrageously hot escort and take her instead of you.

I am eagerly awaiting the aftermath of this clusterfuck.

I trust the OP will throw a punch or two to get things rolling?
