Re: IRE in NZ - ABs 2-9-16 July - Maori 29/6 & 12/7
A few things I’m interested in seeing play out this evening: 1) Set Piece - With NZ restored to an 8 man pack will they reassert their dominance at scrum and lineout? Or have Ireland figured out their issues? For me this was the biggest factor in NZ getting on top in the first match. 2) Fatigue - Ir...

Re: IRE in NZ - ABs 2-9-16 July - Maori 29/6 & 12/7
Speed of ruck ball isn’t a job solely for the forwards. It’s a 1-15 attitude. French teams have huge success in slowing down Irish teams because everyone from loose head to fullback attacks the ruck.

Re: IRE in NZ - ABs 2-9-16 July - Maori 29/6 & 12/7
New Zealand’s pack has not been the problem in this series. Lineout has been better then Ireland’s and their scrum dominating until they went down to 7 forwards. They’ve repelled Ireland’s maul with ease. It was NZ forwards who turned the tide in the first test by getting on top at scrum and lineout...

McCarthy trying too hard to impress. Remove the penalties and he’s playing really well. I’m sure the coaches will hammer discipline into him. Not ready for the test team yet but i don’t think it will be long. Treadwell one of the biggest positives on this tour for Ireland. Consistently making a phys...

So were New Zealand supposed to go down to 12 when it went to uncontested scrums? I’m hearing conflicting opinions. I'm looking forward to your expert analysis of the Irish scrum today. In particular your opinion on why you think Furlong is overrated is welcome. Best scrummaging effort from him and...

You can make all the tactical adjustments you want, improve your line speed, make selection changes etc., but it all will count for nothing when you go backwards at almost every scrum. Furlong and porter’s scrummaging are the weakest link on the Irish team and holding then back. The rest of their ga...

Sowakula's try drives me mental. In rugby we pick a backline based on their attacking abilities. Then when defending a scrum on our goalline we also line them up also based on their attacking capabilities. It's absolutely f**king mental. Obviously Henshaw should be tasked with tackling the 8 and Ca...

I’m assuming there’s others in the camp who have it but aren’t showing up on tests yet. Perfect excuse when we get blown out.

How recently have the rest of the NZ camp had Covid? Is it ripping through the squad as we speak? Vaccines and prior infections isn’t much of a barrier anymore from at least testing positive and feeling crummy for a couple of days.

Anyone else concerned that Covid might be widespread in the NZ camp? These latest variants would run through a squad like that once it gets in.

Will be sad to see Adam Byrne leave. Was starting to play in some big European games for us before injuries just wrecked the last several years. Still think he has the raw materials to be a serious player for Connacht and who knows with a run of matches maybe even Ireland.

It’s a league match, not a cup final. You can’t have the intensity of a final every week or you’ll burn out by October.
Chatting with your opponents after a match is irrelevant and says nothing about how you approached the match.

I’d imagine the Irish management must be looking at sextons form this season and realize the huge benefit of having a summer off and a proper preseason. I’d prefer if the “best tighthead in the world” would sort out his scrummaging. Weak link on the Irish (and Leinster) team. Not necessarily something NZ will expose, but England, France, and SA will continue to destroy him.
Still awesome in the loose though.

As pointed out above this is a US tax system problem. If Ireland is such an amazing tax haven, why aren’t there UK, German, french, and Chinese companies setting up their headquarters in Ireland? I don’t understand how any so called fan of leinstertainment would put holwell ahead of spooner. Holwell was a kidney guy brought into be a steady reliable 10 - which he did very well.
The Nathan spooner led back line was a thing of beauty and kickstarted the leinstertainment era.

We’ll beat New Zealand. Playing japan in that humidity off a 6 day turnaround is a perfect storm for this Irish team. Healy and furlong were gassed after 20 mins (and that was before japan even got going).
Ireland to make it to the final now. We’re in the easier side of the draw.
