Re: Blues v Hurricanes @ Eden Park - Saturday 11 May
Yet another quality game. This is taking me back to the early years of Super Rugby and the NPC when I was a kid... matches with intensity during the round robin phase. ... Super Rugby born again? This year has seen a marked improvement. Even the ‘tahs v Brumbies game was entertaining, if only to se...

Re: Highlanders vs Crusaders Match Thread
Those aren't options. Those are all penalties. How about the ref plays to the rules? None of those things are penalties. Into touch would be a defending lineout, and over the line would be a dropout. They chose badly and conceded a try. Once it's called tackle all players must release. If you keep ...

Re: Highlanders vs Crusaders Match Thread
The ref called tackle, the players were static, and then when the Highlanders started to release the ref allowed the Crusaders prop to join the players as if it was a maul and drive them 2m so the Crusaders player could go over the line. All sides must release the tackled player once tackle is call...

That's harsh Gus No. It's fúcken ridiculous. A n gus didn't find a penalty there so there were three options under the laws, depending on what actually was happening. The player was considered tackled (i.e. a knee on the ground). A maul had ended the tackle. There was neither a tackle or a maul. On...

Good post Thanks. The Russians had a taste of democracy in the 90s and it was a disastrous time for the people. Putin restored order and the economy. People in the west underestimate his popularity there. Yes, they had a taste of democracy but they also had a three course meal of lawless chaos. Put...

Re: Blues v Hurricanes @ Eden Park - Saturday 11 May
Brilliant game, don’t understand the tap and go over a scrum at the end though, 8 off the base always in front of the 5 line. Taps always seem behind. Risk aversion seems the likely reason. It's easier to stuff up a scrum / get penalised for a bullshit reason than stuff up a tap in the first phase.

Watching both teams warm up, the amount of balls passed that are just not accurate… it’s no wonder we never win the bledisoloe. Haven’t been to a Reds game this year but I’m sure it holds true there also. Skills are f**ked. Yeah, it's a bit that way. Watching Strayan RL vis-a-vis Strayan RU is a ta...

Re: Highlanders vs Crusaders Match Thread
The ridiculous rules of rugby are making it almost unwatchable at times. The defending players are holding a player up who is on his feet just meters from the line, they're told "It's a tackle, release!" They release him and he flops over for a try. An absolutely pathetic spectacle! I've had a guts...

Southland has a UNESCO clear skies classification, it's a wee bit less light pollution down these ways. That's definitely something worth preserving. It's doable here too, hopefully some day we will. I like scrums too, and agree with the posters saying that fewer scrums is not indicative necessarily of a better game. Onside from kicks in open play: In a rewrite of Law 10.7 relating to players being put onside from kicks in open play, it will no longer be possible for a player to be put onside when an opposition player catches the ball and runs five metres, or passes the ball. Laws 10.1 and 10.4 will make clear ...

Not sure I like the option of removing the scrum option from a free kick. Sounds like a way of avoiding the real issue - better reffing of the scrum. On the topic, I saw this posted https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GNJyTrXX0AAsYMG?format=jpg&name=900x900 Incredible how much the game has changed in the 3...
