Re: New unimproved England rugby thread

If Roebuck and Steward are injured then there's not much to be done other than slotting someone else in. As long as the intention is for the 9 / 10 / 12 and 13 to be the same for NZ, then I don't have an issue with us playing those backs against Fiji. If we're going to switch back to DIngwall at 12 ...

Re: New unimproved England rugby thread

It makes no difference how quick your rucks are if you're in your own half and either Mitchell or ford are going to kick it. The oz were tossing their 'quick' ruck ball all day to players who weren't ready and it looked rushed, not skilled. It's just some statistic that someone's started reporting....

Well, in this game they weren't - not meaningfully so. Of course, whether this speed is what they're aiming for... is a different matter, and I suspect Blackett in particular wants to see faster rucks, wherever possible. Interestingly, I saw some analysis of Aus and the criticism levelled at them w...

Re: New unimproved England rugby thread

According to that Wibble rugby series on England's attack, it's all about speed of ball to the attacking line and decision-making: from 9 to choose either FH or pod, as well as then from the FH or other distributor to pick what he describes as penetrators or playmakers - basically which runner in t...

Agreed re: stats and lies. There's always some way to provide confirmation bias if you look hard enough. Re: New unimproved England rugby thread

Pepper was anonymous but that would have been different had Steward passed that ball wide rather than his default of cutting inside. England are poor in the opponent 22 too often making the wrong decision. Curry’s two yard pass behind Chessum’s head butchered another try, desperately poor from some...

Re: New unimproved England rugby thread

Dingwall isn't upto it- and ford is done, move on. I'm undecided on Dingwall, but I agree that we would do better to focus caps and additional experience onto F Smith. Every minute Ford plays is a minute "wasted" in terms of opportunity for others, as I don't believe he'll be a starter for any seri...

Re: Autumn internationals (official)- England v Australia

There was no tackle so law 14 isn’t relevant. Law 13 is, and in the ref’s view Pollock tried to get up and half way through that was close enough to the try line to turn “getting up” into “diving for the line”. The ARs clearly didn’t disagree, neither did the TMO. The only ones who do disagree are ...

For someone who is being picked for solid defence on kicks, that's an odd take on Steward, did he actually catch one? Wasn't it his intervention that set up the one that EARL did SCORE? No, Roebuck took the ball (against Suaalii) and passed to underhill who tipped on quickly to Earl. I think Stewar...

Pretty much the whole of that post above was bollix. Not sure whether you were quoting something or just posting your own guff? TBPs don’t feature. Yes the 10pt ranking difference is a cut off for effect assuming the win goes according to the rank. England benefit by 0.4 from a decent win. But NZ’s ...

Harsh ratings for me there - we’ve just dominated the #2 ranked team in the biggest ever game played in women’s rugby. For at least 60-65 minutes it felt like there would only be one winner. Mitchell and the backroom staff deserve a 10 for the way they have prepared the girls and the plan - and then...

Duhan doesn't seem to feature in many people's test sides. Would it be mad for him to finish this tour as top try scorer, and not play a minute of test rugby? Would that be a first? So far this tour, he's: - 1st for tries (5) - 3rd for carries (47) - 1st for metres carried (336) - 2nd for defenders...

It pretty much always is in SR, especially if the player goes through with the tackle. If he had landed on his head then it would have been yellow/red. The outcome should not determine if a law has been broken or not. He saw that he was early and even drove up into the tackle. It’s a card for mine....

I'm not sure I entirely trust ESPN's stats, and there are some glaring omissions (why no ruck stats?), but the attacking numbers they're showing for most of the replacements are damning. Lions really lost all their momentum. I'll refrain from singling out a particular player who just happens not to...

Is this the most Scotsmen in a lions test this century? Doesn't bode well Possibly. And had to choose them carefully to make sure they got actual Scottish ones.
