Re: Your experience with 'southern' Irish protestants
Where my father grew up in rural North Mid Cavan all his neighbors bar one other catlick family were all protestant. A real community there were your neighbours were all like family. His lot were dairy farmers and milk would be sent down the road and loads of veg sent back. Everyone would get togeth...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Two pronged post; Firstly, I'm visiting Ireland for the next 4 weeks. Staying in Cork for almost all of it, but might try to get around and show the missus a bit of Ireland. Wouldn't mind an auld cabal if there is a game worth standing in a pub to watch. (There always is) Secondly, who has suggesti...

The fact that we have had a rainy and cloudy Winter with very little Sun has definitely caused more Vit D deficiency than normal. Can only remember a handful of days when getting out and walking in sunshine was doable.

The 2 things which everyone who's a bit pale from these parts apparently should get checked for, especially if you're fatigued: Haemochromatosis and Vit D deficiency. Those a bit Celty especially for the former. fair-skinned people of European descent are nearly six times more efficient at making V...

Re: British poppy as a sign of oppression
Suppose it's a good example how societal memory can take a number of paths: The memory of the soldiers in the wars symbolised by the poppy focusses on sacrifice. It is about remembering the people that died, not the actions of the aggressors. Personally I find it sad, if the footballer is correct, ...

As I said earlier in the thread, my dream is for Wales (and Ireland and Scotland too, if they wish) to emulate the Scandinavian countries and that everyone leaves school fully bilingual. Question for book readers with ADWD spoiler What is the point of Sam Tarley? it happens in a lot of books, much as in a feast for crows with the utterly pointless travels of brienne, which I sincerely hope is trimmed down from the many, many chapters in the books to the 5mins that eventually seem t...
